Windows XP Problem?

Whenever I turn on my computer (Windows XP) I get this message:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this." Followed by numerous options.

My problem is that I don't understand how to select those options. One of them is called "Start Windows Normally" and that it the one I'm trying to select (my computer won't even let me use the arrow keys to choose another one if I had wanted to).

THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE KEYBOARD
I know this because after the time runs out, the screen changes and an option to press tab to make some minor changes works fine.

I need to know how to select that option. I have tried many different keys, but I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

Do the following:

1. Going into Safe Mode.

a. Bootup your PC and select Safe Mode.

2. Running System File Checker (skip this step if you don't have the original operating system CD such as Windows 2000 or XP).

a. Go to Start | Run and type in cmd.

b. You will see a dark screen with white fonts.

c. Type in sfc /scannow.

d. This will check and repair any damaged system files.

3. Checking for any hard drive errors.

a. Go to My Computer.

b. Right-click on Local Disk (C:) and select Properties.

c. Click on the Tools tab.

d. Click on the Check Now button under Error-checking.

e. Click to check the the two boxes to fix errors and to attempt recovery of bad sectors and then click on the Start button.

f. Re-boot your PC.

Done.

I hope this resolves the problem with your computer. Wishing you have a wonderful and fashionable day!

xp windows does this sometimes when it is switched on and off too often..it is where the boot drive skips and cant go any further as it doesn't know where to go next..so it gives you the option of re-boot..safe mode..or complete re-clean of the system back to the original way it came when bought..if you switch it on and can get to being in the normal mode..go to the programs..select accessories..then system tools..then system restore..you will then have the option of re-setting the PC at an earlier date..choose one that the PC was working perfectly..and re-set.it takes only a few minutes and you don't lose everything only the things you downloaded after that date....if you can't get it started and it's in a loop..you will need to press "F10" and reset the PC back to the basics and lose all the data you have put in since you started with the PC ..which means everything has to be put in again ..programmes..pictures ..music..software etc....

what i would suggest is that you leave the PC on all the time..just switch off the monitor and sound ..it won't hurt..most businesses do this, and it saves wear and tear on the PC main drive..having to re-boot each time..

This is normal message if someone has shutdown the computer without using start shutdown buttons. Such as Ctrl-alt-delete, using the power switch etc. Otherwise not a problem, but if used to often for shutdown, system may lose critical drivers.

it rather is possibly because of the over heating of processor. ensure that your pc is loose from airborne dirt and dust and CPU Fan is rotating precise. As you have already reformatted your pc so difficulty should not be there concerning living house windows. there is a few hardware this is coming up the difficulty, so attempt to reinsert RAM, picture Card and so on. If further hardware is put in detach and reattach it one by using one until you isolate the difficulty.

Try running into safe mode by pressing F8 when booting up.

Uninstall any recently installed programs and reboot your computer.
