Was this portfolio a folder or some sort of software, what types of files where in the portfolio folder, pictures, text documents or files which some specialist software uses?

Winrar never removes anything from a computer it is reputable software, the chances are you have accidently sent your portfolio somewhere. If the folder of your portfolio was called "My Portfolio" try looking for a file called "My Portfolio.RAR" you could have accidently converted it to a compressed folder. Another thing to do is search for a file or folder you can remember which your looking for. Do this by going to My Documents and press F3 this will open a search window and search for some of the files, if your files are still on the computer it should find them.

Hope this helps in some way

I'm sorry, it's next to impossible to discover what's happened to your files remotely. You'll need someone who knows to look at your computer.

It's possible that you archived the files into a RAR archive, if you were messing around with WinRAR.

A RAR file is basically a way of compressing lots of other files into one file, so it can easily be sent to someone.

So for example, you might have had 100 image files, selected them all and then added them to a RAR archive.

Check your computer for files with a .rar (dot RAR) file extension and then double-click on them to see if they contain any of your work.

Use the search tool in Windows XP or Windows Vista, you are basically search for files then end with .rar

Also, if you know what format your pictures were store in, then use the search facility to search for them also.

In Windows XP, you just click on Start and then Search.

Click on Pictures, Music or Video

Then click Search

It should search your entire computer for any pictures. Hopefully you'll find them.

For searching for the RAR files, do the same but in Search choose

All files and folders

Then in the "All or part of file name", type *.rar (star dot RAR)

Then click Search.

This will search all of your computer for RAR archives.

I hope you find them.

It is a "Archive" and you click on the first part and open it in Winrar. The program atomically goes on to next file - if they are gathered after each-other.

They have probably been compressed into a .rar or .zip file. Find that file and open it, you can then extract it with winrar to a folder that you want your pictures to be in.
