I got a net-book Acer and on it i have both XP and Ubuntu installed, since yesterday when i turn it on it gives me this message and it won't start.

GRUB loading.
error: unknown filesystem
grub rescue>

I read somewhere that i have to reinstall the Ubuntu operational system, but i'm not quite sure about it, i'm afraid that that will erase the data on the XP operational system? Any ideas??? Thx

I've had this issue twice on a netboot, especially after some tries to boot the rescue partition, instead of the actual xp partition.

This should fix it (You just need to re-install grub)

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows

Then go into the BIOS and lock the MBR to keep it from happening again.

Download and burn ERD To CD Or Copy ERD To a USB.

Use ERD To Access the XP Or Ubuntu Installation and..

Repair the Grub Boot loader.

I dont understand besides the undeniable fact that it rather is conceivable that your pc is booting with ubuntu . you could replace it by utilising pressing F8 at booting time and it provides you the alternative for booting with domicile windows 7 . basically proceed hitting F8 untill you get an determination.... i think of it rather is going to help !
