Question:
If I transfer us to a new host for our exchange server, will we lose our emails/calenders?

IT asked me for permission to install our own exchange servers (we are currently using another host provider). When I asked them if we'd lose our calendars and emails on the current servers, he said he wasn't completely sure but he didn't think so. I don't think he understands that an entire company's calendar and email data are kind of a big deal...

Anyone know better? will the data save on our personal computers and just repopulate the exchange server when we change the dns settings?

You will need to copy over all the data from one exchange server to the other. The company your leaving from should allow you to do this. Also having everyone save there stuff into a .pst file just in case couldn't hurt either. But not sure how your exchange server is setup but most of the time Calendars and Company Directories are saved exchange server side and will need to be transfered over to the new host.

If you are hosting exchange with a third party, then chances are that you will loose all you calendars and email unless you get your users to backup to a PST file on their local PC.

If you can persuade your current host to export the data using ExMerge from your current exchange server, then you could import it back to your new exchange server. I'm guessing your current host will want to charge a small fortune though as they will be loosing your business and have no obligation to provide a transfer service.

It is difficult to transfer your website without losing any data if you want to do it yourself. It is a comlicated process.

The only company handling the entire transfer process for you is HG. They know how difficult it can be moving to another web host. This company does all steps needed to transfer your website from your current web host to their servers, including:

•Free Domain Transfer!

•Free File Transfers!

•Free Database Transfers!

•Free Script Transfers!

They will move the primary domain of the shared hosting account free of charge within 30 days of signup even if service has not been used. The majority of transfers are completed in less than 24 hours, however, due to the nature of some transfers and depending on how many are currently in the queue, it could take up to 72 hours or more before everything is completed.
