How long, on average (yeah yeah faster computers faster converting ON AVERAGE), does it take to convert a MKV file to MP4 or AVI? Will the output formats effect the overall time?

I googled this question, got a few results of other people asking the same question. A bunch of retarded idiots just answered with programs they use to convert videos or a bunch of blah blah blah garbage talking about computer hardware. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE. Just tell me a rough estimate on how much time it takes to convert 720p TV show episode or 720p movie. An acceptable answer is a length of time, such as "1 hour" or "20 minutes". Even a range of time as long as it's not retarded like "1 minute to 18 years" an acceptable time range answer is has a smaller gap like a 30 minute gap such as "30 minutes to 1 hour". I'm sorry if it feels like I'm being hostile, but it seems like you have to break down what kind of answer you are looking for or else someone will go off into talking about video card brands and irrelevant information like Alexander The Great.

I would also like to know if it would be more time effective to convert to a different format like .avi or .mpeg, etc. The reason I want to convert the mkv file is because I want to watch it on my TV via thumb drive and my PS3. Thanks in advance to anyone that has enough intelligence to know what I am asking and what kind of answer I am looking for. I just can't believe that with as many times it has been asked not a single person answered with a time or time frame. Blows my mind. Getting to the point that I don't want to live on this planet anymore. Dumb people I swear.

It depends if its a music file you want to convert i.e. wav to mp3 it will take about 15 seconds but if its a movie it can take anywhere from 30 mins to multiple hours depending on your processor and clock speed.

It depends on your CPU, the program, the original and target codecs, the image size of the video.

It takes me 48 seconds to convert an 8-minute NTSC MP4 to AVI, Qt video to MJPEG, on an Intel Core 2 2.66GHz using FFmpeg 0.6 on Linux, running on one core with no GPU acceleration.

To just change the container from MP4 to AVI but leaving the content alone takes 0.2 sec.

it took me 6 hours 20 minutes to convert a 850 MB movie from mkv to mp4 1280 x 720.
