Question:
Reformatted to XP and can't get internet working. Help please :[?

I reformatted to XP and now I can't seem to gain access to the internet. I bought my computer from IBuyPower off of Newegg.com a while ago, and I only know as much as Everest can tell me... unfortunately...

Other than that, I did some research and found out that I needed to update drivers, but I'm having a hard time finding which ones I need to get. I looked at my net work adapter and it says somethine about 1394 Net Adapter, or a Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, or RTL 8211/8212. Am I close?

Any tips, advice, or download links are deeply appreciated! Thanks, I'm pretty new to computering :/

Is there any information that I can get off of everest going to be of help to you (so that you can help me, lol). help you, help me :[. I also tried to download the drivers for the Realtek ethernet adapter, but it didn't come in a convenient installation program, but instead consisted of several different files to which I have no idea what to do with, so i can't even update that driver >.>

And addition help, tips, or advice is deeply appreciated! sorry for taking your time!

I have a Ubuntu CD and use that OS to get online to ask questions, in case you were wondering.

You're right about installing all the required drivers. This also happened to my friend, what I did was took note of the chipset model/number/revision and went to its website's download page. With a newly reformatted pc, you usually need to install the chipset drivers. I believe everest also lists this information so it should be easy. Hope this helps.

Use Everest to get a list of all your hardware, then Google them and download the drivers to a USB stick, reboot in windows and install them.

Thats what I do and I never had a problem, though you should have gotten all your drivers before you reinstalled.

boot in to xp and right click on the "my computer" and select manage.

on the left side of the windows select "device manager"

you will see a device with a yellow mark on it, this is your network card.

right click this item and select "Update Driver software"

select no where it says about searching online for drivers. then click next.

then click "Let me choose the driver to install" and click next

take the check from the box that says "search removable media" and select the box where it says browse, Now just browse to the folder containing the files that you have downloaded previously and select "ok"

then click next, if the correct drivers are in the folder it will install and then just select finish.

let us know if that cures it...

Hi,

You will need to re-install the drivers but you need to be sure which one you are using.

The Realtek RTL8168D/8111D is available here :-

http://www.realtek.cz/realtek-driver.php?realtek=network

The others are proving difficult to find.8-((

go to your computer manufacturer website, and use service tag to download drivers.

your best choice is rtl8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. you have to install it again.
