Have you tried to uninstall some unused programs?

If not go to the Start Menu and click on run

Type in appwiz.cpl

Uninstall whatever you don't need.

You could also try installing CCleaner, it will egt rid of alot of temporary files on your computer:

http://www.ccleaner.com/download

Another option is to try defragmenting your computer.

Go to the Start Menu and go to All Programs

Go to Accessories and System Tools.

Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment.

One final thing I would say is to compress your files if you already haven't.

Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive

Check the Compress Drive button and let it do it's thing.

Hope this helps.

Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, and two options you should see are Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter. Both of these are designed to help utilize your hard drive. I would run them both if I were you. Run disk cleanup first, as it will get rid of any incomplete or corrupted and unuseable files that may still be lingering around. This could take a while. Then run disk defragmenter. This WILL take a while. When I say a while I mean several hours. This one compresses all the information you have stored, and organizes it so that the computer has a easier time using it. This not only makes more room but also helps your computer run a little bit faster.

If you still have problems, you may need to buy an external harddrive, or a new computer with more harddrive space.

1. Free up disk space

By freeing disk space, you can improve the performance of your computer. The Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk. The utility identifies files that you can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.

Use Disk Cleanup to:

• Remove temporary Internet files.

• Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).

• Empty the Recycle Bin.

• Remove Windows temporary files.

• Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.

• Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

Tip: Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.

To use Disk Cleanup

1.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup. If several drives are available, you might be prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.

2. In the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to delete list.

Choose the files that you want to delete.

3.Clear the check boxes for files that you don't want to delete, and then click OK.

4.When prompted to confirm that you want to delete the specified files, click Yes.

After a few minutes, the process completes and the Disk Cleanup dialog box closes, leaving your computer cleaner and performing better.

2. Speed up access to data

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece it back together. The response time can be significantly longer.

Disk Defragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. With your files stored neatly end-to-end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.

When to run Disk Defragmenter

In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals—monthly is optimal—there are other times you should run it too, such as when:

• You add a large number of files.

• Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.

• You install new programs or a new version of Windows.

To use Disk Defragmenter:

1.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter.

Click Analyze to start the Disk Defragmenter.

2.In the Disk Defragmenter dialog box, click the drives that you want to defragment, and then click the Analyze button. After the disk is analyzed, a dialog box appears, letting you know whether you should defragment the analyzed drives.

Tip: You should analyze a volume before defragmenting it to get an estimate of how long the defragmentation process will take.

3.To defragment the selected drive or drives, click the Defragment button. Note: In Windows Vista, there is no graphical user interface to demonstrate the progress—but your hard drive is still being defragmented.

After the defragmentation is complete, Disk Defragmenter displays the results.

You probably need to buy another source of Disk space. Usually, when you have reached this point of storing so much data to the point where you are running low, it will be hard to free up disk space for your usage.

Try to buy an External Hard Disk Drive. They are easy to use and easy to install. If you want to save some money, you can ask a family friend who knows alot about computers and ask them about installing an Internal Hard Disk Drive. You can find pretty large HDDs for a reasonable price nowadays.

However, if you want to clear up as much as you can currently, try going to these places:

If you are Running Windows XP,

Click the START button at the bottom left of your screen,

Then click All Programs

Then mouse-over Accessories

Then Mouse-over System Tools

Select Disk Cleanup

It will then go through a small compression phase, and bring you to a window that allows you to select which and what files to delete. Here, you can decide to empty your recycle bin, clear your temporary internet files, etc.

Hope this helped!

For the first one, I'd suggest two things, first, go to where you keep you files, probably My Documents, and rid of ones that you don't need, or are just keeping around, but have never looked at them, two, go to you add or remove programs list (Control panel -- Add or Remove Programs) scroll down the list and remove all that you haven't used, and that you use very rarely, but can get back, IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, DO NOT DELETE IT!!!!! It may be important. (If you don't think it is, you can e-mail me and ask)

For the buzzing sound, if you're not scared to do this, open up your computer while it's running, try to locate the sound, once you've done that, you can email me, that way I don't put what to do for every single thing.

Also blow all of the dust out of the inside, including fans, this is what most likely is making the noises, something is caught and it's hitting it, maybe a wire.

Also, go to Start >> All Progrmas >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk defragmentor and Disk cleanup.

You're getting a pop up? Turn on your pop up blocker, if you don't know how, search Google.

If you have any more questions, feel free to email me!

Hi, if your computer says you are running out of disk space, this usualy means that your Harddrive is full, instead of buying a new disk what you should try to do first is to free up some disk space. Easiest way to do this os to delete old files you dont use anymore, check you "My Documents" folder and select and Delete folders or files you dont use anymore, another good thing to do is to enter youre controle panel (Click the start button, look for controle panel) and go to add remove programs, and uninstall all programs you dont use anymore, but don uninstall any files that starts with KB or Service Pack.

There's only ONE way to get more disk space - delete things you don't need - or move them to a flash drive, an external drive or somewhere else.

If I told you that the bottle was full, and we still had more water to pour into it, you'd see how the only solution was to get rid of some of the water already in the bottle.

Defragmenting doesn't free up space, it just moves all the empty space into one big block - but the free space doesn't get any larger.

Buy an external drive or move all the files you don't need to be immediately available to CDs.

Go to My Computer, right click your hard drive, click Properties - Disk cleanup. That will check the drive for any unused or redundant files, and assist you in making some more space available on the drive.

My computer has done this CONSTANTLY for a few months now. It drives me CRAZY! Everytime it pops up, I click on it and delete files..No matter what I end up deleting, it never takes long before it comes back again. I agree, I'd try to defrag things or see if your computer can hold extra memory that you can buy.

Follow the steps to increase the amount of virtual memory allocated on the hard disk. This will work only if you have a extra partition on your hard disk, and has enough empty space on it. Locate the my computers icon, and right click on it. Select properties. System propertied window opens. Select Advanced panel(Tab) Click on settings button, under the performance section. Performance Options window opens. Again select Advanced Tab/panel in it. Click on change button, in the Virtual memory section. Virtual memory window opens. There you will see all your partitions and the paging file size allocated to it. Select the other drive letter from it. (We are assuming that there is no empty space, or less empty space on your C drive) Select the custom size radio button. In the initial size in MB. wiite a number double than that of actual ram memory on your computer. In the maximum size , write a number double than that of the initial size. Press OK, Press OK Press OK to come out of the windows. This should give enough virtual memory for your computer. In case you do not have another partition,or extra hard disk, then copy some of the files from your computer to a cd/dvd and delete them from your hard disk in order to make some space. Remember that virtual memory is nothing but the empty space on your hard disk temperorily used by the computer. So keep enough empty space on your hard disk for your PC to function properly.

You probably have lots of temporary files and cookies that you can delete. Follow this information to give you more space:

1.) Go to this site and follow the directions http://www.askdavetaylor.com/check_free_space_on_windows_xp.html

2.) Click on disk cleanup and follow the directions.

3.) Go to this site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310312 and remove old programs that you do not need and old restore points.

How much used space and free space do you have?

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

4. Type NoLowDiskSpaceChecks, and then press ENTER.

5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

6. Type 1, and then click OK.

Another way to free up space is to manually reduce the "page file" for virtual memory usage. Many times it is close to 2gb so if your disk is full you can get at least 1gb back to get some temporary relief.

-right-click on "my computer" and select "properties"

-select "advanced" tab then "settings" under "performance" section

-select "advanced" then "change" under "virtual memory"

-choose "custom size" radio button, then "500" as initial then "1024" as maximum size.

-select "set" button, then ok and reboot the system.

Buy an external hard drive and copy files (like music, movies, any other files) over to it. This should free up a lot of room
