By default, Windows XP sets your double click action to open and view the zip file like a normal folder.

This will only work for .zip files.

XP does not handle files like .rar, .7zip, .tar, and so on.

When you double click the zip file (assuming you have no other compression program installed) you'll see the contents of the zip file inside Windows Explorer.

From there on you can move, copy or open the file. To actually use the file for your iPod, you'll need to copy this file (CTRL+C) into your iPod's notes folder.

I recommend 7zip http://www.7-zip.org/

You can get the latest version of Winrar here: http://bit.ly/1o0M15D

I like Winrar because it's a very good program to compress/decompress files in many different formats. You could also use other programs like 7zip or winzip for the same purpose but I think Winrar is the best option avalable. The funcionalities are pretty much the same for each program (you basically do everything with a simple right-click of your mouse) but Winrar is by far the best option.

The things I like about winrar is that it opens a bunch of compressed formats: .zip, .rar, .7z / 7zip, .iso, .tar, .jar etc. (much more than the other programs) and that it's 100% (trial period never expired so you can use it for free with no limitations)

These are the reasons why I recommend Winrar.

When downloading, save the zipped file to your hard disk.

Use 7-zip or WinRar to extract the files from the zipped archive.

Both are free programs that can be downloaded from the internet.

The archive might be password protected. But i will recomend downloading another program becuase the windows-bulitin is pretty useless. I recomend WinRar, it supports most archive types (ZIP,RAR,7Z, ACE, ARJ, BZ2, CAB, GZ, ISO, JAR, LZH, TAR, UUE, Z)

It is free as well.

get Winrar for free here http://j.mp/1p3PjFT

If you need to open file zip, rar, 7z, jar and all the other compressed files you need WinRar.

Cheers.
