Question:
I have a question about Vista which is Microsoft’s brand spanking new operating system?

my question is how could Microsoft get it so wrong, after all bill gates became the richest man in the world by creating the windows operation system in all of its incarnations, I am not saying that any of the previous versions of windows were without their problems, and I am sure that there are lots of happy Vista users out there, but Vista just seems so resource hungry and is incompatible with everything that it makes me ask what were Microsoft thinking of, you would think that with all their experience of creating windows software they would know what they were doing, but there seems to be a great many vista users who are having real problems with the new Vista software, and many are having to revert back to the XP operating system, I am sure that some of those problems are down to inexperienced users and Vista being installed on computers that are not powerful enough to handle the demands of Vista, but all in all does anyone else think that Microsoft owe all vista users an apology and a refund

As you can tell from the postponed release date of Vista the OS wasnt ready to be released yet but was forced to be published (probably to meet a quota) The developers even admitted that it is a disaster. They have bit off more than they could chew. Vista started out as an aesthetic project but they changed their direction towards security mid way through development.

This was the first step (out of 2) to create a new type of OS to ween customers off of backwards compatible with previous platforms and it has failed.

Vista has a patch coming out in October to fix the problems. Most of Vista has not been enabled and wont be until 70% of people are using it. The reason being, Microsoft has decided to get tough on the pirates by making it so that vista will only run with software that's licensed. The problem with that is small companies wont be able to afford the $50,000 a year license plus if a hardware company goes out of business you wont be able to download the drivers after that year has finished because there isn't a license so you will have to upgrade your computer. And thats how Microsoft will make the money.

The main problem isn't the operating system people have trouble with.

People complain there 10 year old printer doesn't work anymore. And the driver on the cd doesn't work. They don't even know what a driver is, have no idea you can most likely download a vista driver for it.

People cry about that they can't use their favorite obscure program anymore. Let me reply to that with a question. Can you still use your favorite windows 98 program on xp? no

It's normal that programs written for another operating system don't work on another.

If you update your pentium 3, 256mb ram pc to vista you shouldn't cry about slow response.

People cry about it uses 80% of the ram all the time. They are used to xp using only 15% of the ram all the time. --> Do you find it normal that you buy a pc with 2gb ram only to ever use 20% of it at all times? The reason vista uses that much ram, is to speed up the pc. It "learns" what program you are likely to use an preloads them to give you faster access when you open it. It clears those programs from the ram, if you need your ram for other program that require lots of ram.

Some people just aren't used to change. And they don't like vista because the location of some folders have changed. Or that you have to press another button to change the background.

They ***** about virusses and spyware, and when microsoft copies parts of linux superior protection, they *****. You shouldn't be admin for day to day tasks. If you want to install an program as non admin, it should ask you if you want to install a program.

The vista operating system is cleary superior on all fronts to xp.

And i'm no microsoft fanboy, i'm just tired of people bashing vista for normal things. I use linux mint cassandra most of the time, and from time to time use vista home premium (if i'm to lazy to reboot to get into linux after someone opened vista), and find it surprisingly good.

I'm not saying I disagree with you at all. However, Bill Gates' knows that people like the latest and greatest. So Microsoft comes out with a "new" operating system. Eventually the game, mp3 players, hardware manufacturers, etc. etc. will make their stuff compatible. Then XP will become out dated forcing people to change. So really he's ripping us all off. However, we don't have to buy Vista, we can all switch to Linux and tell bill gates' where to stick it

All the computer magazines have been saying this for a Year.

I ordered a New Computer from Dell last Dec, With XP Media Center, I'm listening to KLLN as I type, with the upgrade option to Vista that I paid for on the order. It never came, but I haven't felt motivated to call Michael Dell about it.

My Old Computer the CompUSA they first built 6 years ago, on it's 2nd Motherboard, died a couple weeks ago as I was changing out the Video Card, is waiting for the tech to return and hook up the Sata Drives I got, the old drives were IDE. I'll install another copy of XP media center, and W 2000 on it. :)

Burn the ISO image onto a blank dvd using any of the many software programs available eg Nero, Iso Magic, Alcohol 120 ect. If you are after a fresh install you must place burnt disc into drive, restart pc then change boot sequence to dvd rom 1st. Then simply follow setup intstructions. Notr this will format your hard drive so copy all files you want to keep to an external or disc b4 installing.

They didn't get it wrong it's just all you ****'s who were too lazy to download the hardware compatibility software to see if you could run your hardware with vista the compatibility software was been available a year before vista was released or just too bloody tight to upgrade their hardware and before you say your on a budget so am I (£20 a month to be exact). So if you feel that you've been ripped off YOU HAVE NO-ONE TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF FOR BEING LAZY!!!

New proprietary software tends to get worse over time due to its motivation for profit.
