Other than avoiding a port in the 6881-6999 range (as these are often blocked by ISPs), the port number does not make much of a difference.

uTorrent suggests a port number above 10,000 and Vuze suggests a port in the 49152-65534 range.

The important things in clearing a port are to set exceptions in any firewall or router.

Make sure your router as UPNP (Universal Plug n Play) turned on, and that you turn it on in uTorrent as well. This should work (this is the configuration I have)

You might also want to try using a random port (uTorrent can select a random port each time it is started), in case your ISP catches on and blocks your port.
