The Irritable Nerd

That whole way of loading was really starting to bug me so I trauled the internet in search of an answer and found one that looked relatively simple, I can't remember exactly what I did but I remember it had something to do with what actually loaded when everything is starting up and you could choose what did and didn't so I turned a load of stuff off and my laptop seemed to start up a lot faster but it still took a while to load up.
Then a couple of days ago I thought that maybe deleting some stuff in the recycle bin would be a good idea as I've already sort of deleted it so it must be junk. Somehow I thought it would help make my laptop start up faster so I deleted it all (there were about 300 something files,) and it actually worked and for a day or two my laptop started up really quick and that was awesome.
Trouble is, it's doing the same thing again now and this time it takes more than 3 restarts to get it to work. It took about 10 minutes to load up before I came on here AND I think I may know what's causing it, or atleast I've got a hunch.
Yesterday I was playing the sims 3 and it crashed, it does it a lot actually. The screen goes black but you can still see the cursor, comes back on for a second and then poof! Everything's shut down and when it comes back on it's telling me there was an 'unexpected shut down'. And when that happened yesterday that's precisely when my start up problems started happening again.
I'm not sure what to do, should I re-install the sims? Should I get rid of a load of files? Is there some thing I should click on hidden deep down in the depths of my files that will mean disabling something will get my computer to startup as quick as it did?
Thanks in advance for any answers, I know this text is very long so thankyou also for taking the time to read it. :)
