I am going to try and keep this short and simple.
When I play a song in winamp or anywhere else, even on youtube, sometimes the sound plays sometimes it don't.
When this first started and the sound did not play, I would have to go to add hardware to get it to play again. A small window would pop up saying this........Nullsoft directsound output v2.49 (d) error, bad directsound driver. please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration, error code: 88780078.
In audio devices it would say no audio device when sound did not play, after adding it as hardware it then shows up in audio device. Later I figured out something where if I disable error reporting service and change windows audio service recovery from "take no action" to "restart the service" in 1 minute then when audio stops it will restart again in a minute without me having to add it as hardware. Now it's just a minor inconvenience.
I just bought a new sound card with drivers and it still does the same crap.
This seems to be a windows(xp) problem.
Anyone know what missing In windows folder or registry or what I need to change to stop this?
I searched the internet for days and can't get any good answers.

nullsoft directsound output error, this deals with winamp try uninstalling winamp, use ccleaner registry option to cleanup any winamp registry files that is left over, make windows media player your main

for cd's ,video, and dvd in other words your main player, download the latest direct x,and before you install your new sound card and drivers disable the old sound card through the device manager and the bios ,there is a progam at microsoft downloads under windows media for windows media 7 and above to fix audio and video codecs, there is a update for winamp version 5.58 that should help fix the problem if you still want to use winamp, cause it seems like winamp was your universal player is probably you were having errors a bad file within winamp, lastr but not least check windows update

under hardware and see if there is a update for your sound problem

Yeah. sounds like a windows error to me. Try reinstalling/updating DirectX from the microsoft site. If that doesn't work, Disable DirectSound and go to Hardware mode. Settings should be in the specific application. Also, WinAmp has been known to be a bit buggy in XP. The newer versions, that is. I've had troubles with winamp since they first hit 3.0.
