I accidentally moved my email storage folder and then (the cat jumped on my lap!) hit the "Open with" tab for Microsoft Word. Now I can't work out how to change my emails back to a format Outlook Express will work with. (Anyone want a cat?)

.eml
You can see an explanation of the .eml file extension in the first source article below.
If you're looking for these files, they can be found by opening Outlook Express. On the Tools menu, click Options. On the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder. This will show you the folder location of your stored email messages.
See the second source article from the Microsoft website for reference regarding your stored messages in Outlook Express.
I hope that helps!

.dbx is the extension you are most likely talking about.
.eml is the actual email saved onto your comptuer (after composing or reading)
The storage folder for outlook express for mine is something like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{FC844EBC-D56D-476D-9AB9-9A8FB5FD62A5}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Go into the options of your email application and look for storage or maintenance and you should be able to change the storage location of the emails and such.
