Kernel panics are rare, they usually only happen if your hardware has something go wrong (like you drop it). Or if it is software related, Kernel panics normally resolve themselves when you restart the computer. Theres really nothing to worry about.
You can perform system tweaks if you want with a utility called Onyx (google it) or the Macs built in Disk Utility (to check and repair permissions).

If you can't go into disk utilities from your Mac, you can go into it with the recovery disk that came with it, or any OS X version CD that is OS X 10.2 or later. Anyway, in disk utility, click on the OS X partition (volume), then first verify disk in the Disk Aid tab, then repair disk after that's complete. Then click on the verify disk permissions button, then fix disk permissions after that's complete. If you can't boot into OS X completely, and can't find a CD, if you have another Mac, with a version of OS X on it that is able to go on the same CPU as the other Mac, like Leopard can go on both PPC and Intel, Tiger can do only one, or the other, depending on the CD, and then Everything Pre Tiger is PPC only and Post Leopard is Intel only. When you do that, you can boot into Target disk mode through a firewire and fix it that way. Sorry if I went on too long about the OS X builds, but I hope it helps.

You could try resetting PRAM and NVRAM by shutting down and then turning it on while holding down command, option, P and R. If it keeps happening it's probably a hardware issue in which case you'll have to send it into apple to fix.
