Lot's of things you can do to speed up the computer and the connecting to the internet and even the speed it has for your connection. That way you get more from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Starting with speeding up Vista and later you will need to tell me the name of the wired and wireless cards you are using if you want to speed up the two of them.
1. click Start
2. click Computer
3. right click on the hard drive the c: drive
4. click on Properties
5. un-check Index this hard drive for faster searching (this was put on there to allow you to search the computer faster for files such as photo's, music, and movies.) How ofter do people do that?
6. click Okay
7. click Okay
8. restart Computer, first time you do this it's updating to the new changes but you will see a change in the speed of it shutting down and then starting up and then you restart the computer once more. After that it will be the new speed and the changes are already completed from the first restart. Many that have done this told me "it's like you gave me a brand new computer!" or "it's like my computer is new again".
Now to speed up your connecting to the Wired and WiFI and connection speed too.
1. right click on your Wireless bars in the lower right hand corner.
2. click on Open Network and Sharing Center
3. click on Change Adapter Settings
4. right click on Wireless Connection
5. click on Properties and then click Yes
6. un-check TCP/IPv6
7. click Ok
8. repeat steps 5 through 7 for the Wired Connection
9. restart the computer
You can also update the drivers some manufacturers stop making drivers for that particular wired/wireless card. Remember your computer can be brand new or old does not mean you have the newest drivers they have to be manually updated and the best way is to search on Google for them. To follow the instructions they have listed on their site for installation of those drivers if none given then ask on Yahoo Answers for further help.
You can also use CCleaner to help get rid of unused and unwanted things from your computer to further speed it up. Try the first thing then see how much faster then do the next, reason is so you can truly see how much it increased the speed just by doing each of these things.
BTW... There is more that I can do but this answer is getting to be very long and it's very late for me. If you have done these and want more answers from me send me a mail through my profile on Yahoo Answers.. I am sure the things in my answers will truly help your computer.
Remember to vote for best answer, thanks!
Responding to your Reply.... - You speed up your Belkin by unplugging it for 30 seconds this will help you can do that once a month; that is the most you would need to do it. I power cycled mine about 3 times in a year. 1 of those times is because of power failure from ice storm.
What type of wireless card are you using? Cheap cards will barely let you tweak (modify) the software for a better connection and the expensive ones are confusing even when you see them. However they do offer a lot better options on tweaking it and signal strength.
If you need steps on that then please start another question this answer is getting to be super long. Besides that more information is needed to know what type and if your not sure how to find it then I will need to guide you there in steps.
Have you done any of these steps? Yes you can also buy more RAM and depends if you want to spend the time and money doing that. Laptops and Desktops both can be upgraded, however the cost and difficulty levels are very different. Lower cost and difficulty is for desktops and can recommend which RAM to buy but need spec's to give you the best answer. I would recommend picking a best answer then ask new questions. If you want my help do that and add me as friend on here then I will get an email telling me you asked new questions.
