Advantages: serves multiple (many, many, many) users from a centralized repository of software; superb virtualization; unrivaled speed; no PC yet equals the maximum memory of a mainframe (IBM has world's largest computer at Los Alamos, approaching intelligence levels of living beings); superb process automation; superb calculation speed; superb support (due of course to the heavy price paid) from an intense corporate infrastructure

Disadvantages: intense resource consumption; intense human attention required; intense space occupied

Installation The physical size and the hardware components of a mainframe computer are different than the ones of a regular computer, making mainframes more complicated to set up. Costs One of the most noticeable disadvantages of a mainframe computer is its cost, which is significantly higher than the cost of a regular computer. Stability A major advantage of mainframes is that they are very stable compared to other types of computers. This is especially useful in a usage environment where uptime is very important.
