You need to buy a NIC (Network Interface Card). You can get them for 20.00 or less. Any store that sells computer parts will have it. You just take the side panel of the computer off (left side if you're looking at the front of it) and slide the card in an available slot. Then you will have the jack sticking out of the back. YOu might want to look inside your computer before going to the store to make sure you have a free slot. Most NIC's nowadays are PCI connections. Look at this picture for what PCI looks like http://www.quatech.com/support/goldfingers.jpg
If your computer is really really old, then it might only support ISA (much longer and bigger). If thats the case, then you need to look for a NIC card with ISA connection on it. Harder to find. You might even have to search one in ebay. Heres what the ISA I was talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_ISA

You can install an Ethernet PCI card into your system for less than $20. There is also a USB Ethernet adapter you can purchase but costs more.

if your computer is not too old, you can install a Network Interface Card
(NIC).
If its too, old, it may be impracticable, if not impossible, to find a card that will be compatible with the mother board.
The best thing you can do is to Google the model number or name of your computer and the word " peripheral card", on your favorite search engine!
If you have an older laotop, you won't be able to use a board.
Try, " ethernet connection, usb adapter" or any combination, for a place that sells usb adapters or "pcie ethernet adapter" or just buy a newer computer!
Go Figure!
