What does the 128K or 256K refer to when you search a song on windows media player using the guide? Does it refer to the quality of the song? And if so, then does a song with more K take up more place on a computor's hard drive? By the way, what K to the songs purchased on iTunes have?

Playback speed. The higher the number (usually) the better the recording... but the size of the file goes up as well.

Good recordings can be found typically in the 160-256 range.

That refers to the size of the file that can be played back without refreshing. The larger the file the smoother the playback will be. 265K usually refers to broadband and 128K or lower is usually DSL, dial-up or something like that.

Hey there, Yes The more kilobytes (k) it is the higher the quality is, and yes the more kb the song is the more space its going to take up on your hard drive.

256k is higher quality! requres a bit more cpu usage during playing it..

yes, it is a measurement of quality....

kbps = kilobits per second...

the more bits of audio you have per second, the better the audio quality

(and larger file size) ....

128kbps is the minimum for "CD quality" sound...

I use 192kbps when I rip music
