The problem i have is that i live in frat house and sometime on week nights, people in the rooms close to mine like to party and play their music very loud. I have 7 and 8 AM classes everyday of the week and i am trying to get to sleep before 4 in the morning. I have been trying to use remote desktop between the two computers so i can take control and shut them down or lower the music volume. problem is, my roommates computer is windows vista and i cannot figure out how to work this piece of junk, every time i try and connect it says please try again and never seems to work.

I have disabled all firewalls on both computers, made remote desktop a accepted program and all the things that it says i should do but it still will not connect. I have also got his IP and have tried that.

My question is, does anyone know how i can accomplish my goal of from my computer with a different program besides the standard remote desktop? I am thinking along the lines of a program available online.

I have complete access to their computer and are on the same network and he has no password. Also i am pretty computer literate, but step by step instructions are preferred if it is complicated.

Your answer oddly enough comes in the form of a new (and currently free) service from Microsoft. It is called LIVE MESH.

https://www.mesh.com/Welcome/Welcome.aspx

Just run it on each of the systems that you need to have control of. Have the agent launch and sign in on start up and it will be accessible from the log in you have for live mesh.

Sounds confusing, but trust me ~ once the client has been accepted it will work great for you. It gives you full control over the system and I have had NO firewall issues. 128k SSL, and access from ANY internet connection.

LogMeIn?

It would show up in a little box on his screen that hte PC is being controlled, but if you can put the software on his Pc then its easy to use form there.

I mainly use it for accessing my Pc while in classes, so you can use it for that too. you just need a browser to control it.

Or failing that get a decent pair of ear plugs.

it's impossible but in the night when they are sleeping cut the electricity cable from thier room to fix it they will need about 2 days and when they fix it do it again and so on or go to them and act as a mad and tell them to stop the music this will work

UltraVNC perhaps? You'll need to muck about with firewall settings again like you did for remote desktop.

Is it possible just to find the electrical breaker box in the frat house and flip the breaker to their room?
