I believe Windows 8 is a step towards an OS with very limited backend functionality. Like they don't want users to have too much control over their core systems. I promise you, 10 years from now a computer operating system will be a sealed unit that doesn't allow any modifications whatsoever. It'll just be a bigger version of an iphone, plus windows and apple will only be distinguishable by the design only. They'll be no such thing as a control panel or a command prompt and all the OS code, bios and drivers will be locked and encrypted inside a inaccessible area of your computer.

It's as if, as computers are getting smarter and faster, at the same time they are dumbing users down with pretty graphics and limited functionality.

Even though Vista got a bad wrap because it was released too early and some people think it asks permission too much, personally I like it. I've been using it since in first came out and I've become so used to it now, I can't imagine using a different OS. There is absolutely nothing I can't do with my Vista machine and all my settings have taken a long time to get perfectly set up. My computer is fast and extremely productive.

I agree with u 100%. I hate where operating systems are going! personally I don't have Vista and haven't used it much but i respect it for trying new things. I'm an XP lover and use 7 mostly for important stuff but I like Vista to. Its just a shame about the stability and driver issues, still better than the rubbish that's coming. But the thing you have to understand mate is that people like us are a minority group. The majority of people don't want the extras or the Technical stuff. All they want is to write "lmao" on Facebook as easily and quickly as possible.

Vista was the start of the graphical dumbing down process. Microsoft made XP too good, it's a necessary part of their business plan that one will have to upgrade their OS and their hardware every few years so they can make money.

Windows 8 is wrong on so many levels, most threatening is the locked boot chip which will disallow any other OS on it. People will sleepwalk into it though largely through ignorance and apathy.

Editing configuration and registry files is already a pain in the **** for windows and basic programming such as a command line and ssh are lacking out of the box and it has very poor filesystems in ntfs and fat.

IMO windows ought to get a bad rep for it's retarded terms of use.
