The file has been on my screen for over a week now and I have no idea how to get rid of it. The message that pops up says "Error deleting file or folder - cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk"

There is a very simple way to solve this problem.

Use a fantastic little program called "Unlocker". Download it here:

After downloading and installing it, simply right-click on the desktop icon and select "Unlocker". Follow the steps. It's very easy to use. It should remove it for you. :)

Boot to Safe Mode, delete the file, then boot to normal mode. I'll bet the file isn't there in safe mode, though, because of the error message. "cannot read from source file or disk" tells me the file is already deleted, but the desktop manager hasn't removed the pointer.

Highlight the item then hit SHIFT + DELETE

should take care of it. if it says the program is open in another application then type CTRL + ALT + DELETE , click on 'Start task manager' or if it opens up the 'task manager' by default, select the process tab, find that item that you are trying to delete, end the process then try to SHIFT DELETE again

Highlight the file by right clicking on it once, on the item menu select delete/remove.

Well I would suggest right click on it and then choose delete. But this sounds like a real interesting question. Did you try the MS knowledge base?

Go to "My Computer", then your desktop. See if it is still there. Try deleting it again and refreshing.

this would possibly not be the respond, yet somebody could be hacking your computing device and using the applying. yet another concept is to open this device and spot if each and every thing is working how that's meant to. desire it enables!
