Question:
My computer does not have enough memory?

I tried to open up "flight simulator", which I played last night just fine, but now I got this:

ERROR FS9

Your computer does not have enough memory available to run Flight Simulator. The program will now quit.

What do I need to delete to create memory, or do I need to delete anything at all, remember I just played this with no problems, I've tried taking out the disc and clicked on the program 5 times.

try rebooting your pc some time a program gets stuck in memory reboot should free up that space in memory if that does not work turn off your computer and unplug it from the wall for 30 sec that should flush all the memory and you should be good to go

you might also want to click on the start button click on run and type msconfig

click on the start up tab

and uncheck everything that you do not need to start that will also free up memory reboot the computer and you are done

Your main question is about RAM. So your last question "How can I tell how much space im using" isn't really as pertinent as you think. RAM is not the same as hard drive space. For most part, you're not using the RAM directly. Programs decide with your Operating System, how the RAM will be used and how much they want to allocate for themselves. Anyway, you do have a very small amount of RAM. I am guessing your computer is about five years old or a laptop or both. RAM can be expensive, especially for laptops and the overall hardware of an older machine wouldn't really show that marked an improvement IF you're planning on running today's programs. If however you have only stuff like MS-Word and the odd card game kicking around then you can get by on 256 MB of RAM. Personally though, I'd save up and buy a new PC for Christmas if I was you. The sales should be good. Good luck. P.S. - You will want at least 2 GB of RAM and maybe a 320 GB hard drive in your next machine...

Run less programs at the same time, in order to free more RAM space.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del then go to Processes tab and close programs and processes which you don't use right now.

close open programs, especially any internet programs or media players or photo editing software. The memory it's referring to is RAM, which is probably being used by other programs that are open. You could check which programs are hogging your memory by opening Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and sorting by "Mem Usage" on the right.

when it tells you you need more memory it is referring to RAM, not harddrive space. You can turn off services to free more ram, but i would recommend just adding more ram. Its really cheap right now. I got 4 gigs last month for $40.
