Basically my computer crashed and i retrieved all files such as jpeg photos and all word processing documents. i was able to restore most of the pics with minimum corrupt files but when i try to restore and open the word processing files they show all sorts of sysmbols and not the actual text. i tried to open from the different list of programs but none work. All the documents were done in either word, excel, microsoft office or microsoft works. how can i convert back or are they all lost?

Try using a data recovery program.

Data Doctor FAT + NTFS (DataDoctor.Org) and IOLO's SystemMechanic 7.0 (iolo.com) are good suggestions.

If you didn't WIPE the drive they will recover most of your files without a lot of work.

Good luck to you on that...

Computer crashed and your files could be deleted. To recover your lost jpeg photos, words, excel office documents, you will need to use professional data recovery software. Which can scan your computer and recover lost corrupted photos, videos, microsoft works, and other document files and text.

There are particularly some courses accessible, yet first attempt doing an common get carry of of your start up menu for the record. Your "virus" might have purely made the my archives shortcut aim a various itemizing. despite you do, do no longer USE YOUR rapid restoration DISK that got here with the laptop, through fact this is going to format your force. in case you have already used it, you will choose an undelete software to dig into deeper layers of your force. i understand of one called unfastened undelete, yet i havent needed to apply it yet through fact i exploit multiple difficult drives to back up my archives.

They are lost. Once it gets corrupted consumer available software is not going to be able to repair those damaged files. At least you got most of your photos.
