I need help please, Ok here's what the deal is I have this hp g71 laptop and I just bought a new sata hard drive and My old hard drive has given up on so it's useless, But I am trying to install a new fresh copy of windows 7 by copying the files on a flash drive now don't know if I'm doing it right or not. But it loads the files and takes me to the set up window to choose my language and everything but when I click install it says set is starting but then a window pop up saying "windows could not collect information for {OSImage} since the specified image file {install.wim} does not exist. What does this mean and how can I fix this to get my computer up and running?

The link below will take you through the process to create a BOOTABLE flash drive version of Win7.

You must follow this WORD FOR WORD or it will not work!

You can't JUST copy the files to the pen drive and have it work!

Good Luck!

What it is talking about is that the Windows install kernel is missing... so it is a fault USB setup that was made. Window is not supposed to be installed from a USB drive, in fact I believe Microsoft has never even thought about releasing a build such as so. If your optical drive is a dud as well as you old HDD then you need to replace that to.

Better to use the installation CD than the USB and make sure that the new hard disk is detected by your laptop. Boot your laptop to CD and install the windows 7.
