I just bought a new IDE hard drive with external enclosure but it couldn't recognise in my window XP. It only recognise as "usb device" and showed no problem over there but i can't see any extra hard drive been added. I tried at my friend's laptop and it works fine. Anyone know the problem of this? Thank you.

Did you format the new hard drive?

Go to “Disk management” to check or format the new disk.

Have you install service pack 3?

First of all, I would be going to the manufacturers web site and look for drivers for the enclosure and try using them. I would also be looking in the Device Manager (Right click my computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager) and look under 'Disk Drives' for the external hard drive. Also, try different USB ports. Sometimes Windows is funny and will reinstall the drivers after the device has been plugged into another USB port. Hope all this helps :-)

1 if u purches branded one then no problem simply replace it if u purches erlier

2 if not branded try to do following steps (also try for branded one)

2.1 open "disk managment" by clicking rmouse button on "mycomputer"

2.2 in disk management u will find all disks on u'r machine with ext connected one

2.3 if u have no prob with hdd detection then only assign letter to the connected one by clicking on same one
