The reason the computer gets slow is due to the registry files becoming corrupted, or messed up, in simple terms. These files tell the computer or laptop how to operate the software installed on the system. If any of these files get messed up, the computer is not sure what to do and this will really slow down the computer. The other scenario is where you download other software, screensavers, pictures, videos, or even music, and this will somehow change the settings on a registry file. When this happens, the original program that needs that file now has the wrong instructions in it. So, it will cause the computer to run slow, or in a worse case, crash.

You can speed up your computer with a thorough analysis and repair of your registry. The registry Scan will identify corrupt files, paths, and registry keys causing your computer to have errors and run slow.Go to http://www.registry-bot.com to download registry bot.It is the most advanced and comprehensive registry repair product on the market. It will speed up your computer and make windows startup faster.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

1) Defragment your hard drive. Fragmentation severely degrades the speed, performance and reliability of your computer. Try Diskeeper 2008, its automatic so you will never have to worry about defragging again. You can download free 30-day trial-ware at www.diskeeper.com, it will give you set-up instructions.

2) Delete any unused or unnecessary programs and files. These may be taking up space, memory and resources, thus slowing your computer. Also delete your cashe/ temp files, empty your recycle bin, clear your internet browsing history, etc.

3) Registry cleaner: Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, uninstalls etc. so this needs to be cleaned. This will optimize and remove redundant or unwanted items.

4) Have you downloaded a lot of stuff? Check your memory, how much do you have left? If its less than 15% get some more. How much Ram do you have?

Good luck!

There are many programs which will claim to do this, in fact they actually slow it down.

Try downloading this program though; startup monitor (control panel) from http://mlin.net - In the control Panel select startup and you can disable unnecessary processes

Do not format anything - no point

also defragmenting may slightly increase program access speeds.

1. Disable Indexing Services

Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don’t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:

Go to Start

Click Settings

Click Control Panel

Double-click Add/Remove Programs

Click the Add/Remove Window Components

Uncheck the Indexing services

Click Next

2. Optimise Display Settings

Windows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimise:

Go to Start

Click Settings

Click Control Panel

Click System

Click Advanced tab

In the Performance tab click Settings

Leave only the following ticked:

Show shadows under menus

Show shadows under mouse pointer

Show translucent selection rectangle

Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop

Use visual styles on windows and buttons

3. Speedup Folder Browsing

You may have noticed that everytime you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers everytime you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:

Open My Computer

Click on Tools menu

Click on Folder Options

Click on the View tab.

Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box

Click Apply

Click Ok

Reboot your computer

4. Disable Performance Counters

Windows XP has a performance monitor utility which monitors several areas of your PC’s performance. These utilities take up system resources so disabling is a good idea.

To disable:

download and install the Extensible Performance Counter List

Then select each counter in turn in the ‘Extensible performance counters’ window and clear the ‘performance counters enabled’ checkbox at the bottom.button below

If you are running XP, while using the built in tool, make sure that no other program runs to interrupt its task, otherwise it may hang or restart. ( run it in safe mode) you need atleast 15% free space For this you can uninstall programs that you dont need, burn music, movies pics etc onto DVDs ets, run a diskcleanup(get rid of temp files, recycle bin files, older restore points) and you should be able to get some space free. Run a diskcleanup and chkdsk if needed.Go to Start>Accessories>Systemtools>Diskdefrag...

Analyze the drive do as the report suggests. Just ensure there is no power cut during the process.

If you are running Windows Vista, its designed to defrag on its own and doesnt show a graphic or fragmentation visuals.

Alternatively to save yourself time and the frustration that sometimes arises from defrags that hang or restart, check out better a better defrag program like Diskeeper, which is automatic and once installed do the job in the background without needing any manual intervention. You can go about your normal PC work without any hassles even when it works. If your drive is badly fragmented, the Windows tool may take ages. You can download free trial versions on the DK site or simply google.

A diskcleanup and defragmentation can help improve performance and you may not need to replace your PC.

Set on the gas more!! (yuk-yuk-yuk!!)

There are many different things which can slow a computer down. YOu didn't say how old it is or what you have on it or how you use the computer.

If you're using your computer for gaming, you may need a better newer one that can handle gaming better.

YOur Windows might be older, so it can't run the computer as fast.

You mgiht not have enough RAM, which is used to help process stuff. If you have more RAM, the cmputer can process more and faster.

Having a large enough hard drive also helps, because if it's so full, it's harder to place new info and retrieve it.

Your chip might be too old, might be too slow to handle all you ask of it. For anything modern, you should have at least 2Gig chip speed. And at least Windows XP.

The other obvious is that it's infected with virus or cookies. They can mess things up easily. Goto MajorGeeks.com and you can get some excellent FREE antispyware programs.

Also download some cleaners such as CCleaner and Eusing Free Registry cleaner. These get rid of unused or old folders in your registry. It's like cleaning your bedroom so you can walk around.

Then also download Auslogic Disk Defrag, which rearranges stuff on your hard drive. Kinda like putting stuff in the closet, in the drawers, under the bed, etc. Once you use this, you only have to use it once a month or less. But the registry cleaners should be used regularly, like weekly, along with some good antispyware programs.

I had a friend who had such a bad infestation of cookies, the computer would freeze up immediately. It took over 2 hours to clean it up.

Get antispyware progarms from MajorGeeks such as Spybot or SUPERantispyware. These are excellent for keeping viruses off your computer. But these also need to be upgraded regularly, like weekly or every couple weeks, to make sure they have the up to date info to work with.

Also download SPYWARE BLASTER, which works kinda like a fence or firewall to help keep stuff from getting into your computer.

If it's spyware, these will definitely clean you up.

But as you can see, trying to speed up a computer is about like trying to speed up a car, there's too many things which need to be done.

Throw it out of a moving vehicle :P

Just kidding of course - usually if a pc is slow - check to make sure you're only running one anti-virus and firewall this can slow a machine down drastically - also the number of running programs in the background can drastically effect it, you can disable some of these by clicking start > run > msconfig then hit enter clicking the startup tab you can usually disable all of these with no risk to your system although be selective in what you are disabling as some programs will require some of these items - when ur done hit ok and reboot you'll get a checkbox pop up just check it and hit ok/yes and u wont see it again

The other thing to look for is are you getting any strange behavior - random ad popups or warnings your computer is infected or any crap like that if so u prob got a virus which won't be helping things.

A fresh install of windows basically always will give ur pc a good kick in the but but will require installing all drivers and applications again - be sure to backup any important data prior to doing this.

Finally if all else fails - add some ram if you're running less than 1gb of ram this well help drastically i'd recommend running 2gb or 4gb if possible - ram is dirt cheap these days - just make sure to run in dual channel (so pair either 1x1gb or 2x2gb modules) if your motherboard supports it

Well you could replace the weaker parts. It's possible you HDD is clogged up with various crap like lots of files, viruses, useless programs and whatnot. In that case it's good to clean up, run a full virus scan and a hard disk defragmentation. Though, it's easier if you just format. Another option is buy an awesome cooling system or come up with some innovative ways to cool your computer, then overclock the processor. But you've to be careful to not overheat it. "Cold" computers perform much better than ones that get hot.

Defragment the hardrive

Reinstall the OS after formating the ENTIRE hardrive

Buy more RAM

All of these put together makes a fast computer

Also try not to have alot of resources or start-programs going at once.

try these:

1. defragment the hard drive, over time the hard drive gets fragmented as programs get installed and uninstalled defragementing the hard drive re-organises the files so that the hard drive isn't searching as hard for the files and so makes it a lot quicker

2. run check disk, the file structure could be altered or corrupted check disk which is in built on windows checks this and other parts of the hard drive to make sure all is as it should be and will also repair any corruption - go to my computer right click on the hard drive icon then go to properties, then tools and then error checking check both boxes it will prompt you to restart the computer as it needs to check the hard drive with out windows running

3. run registry cleaners, the registry is where files and instructions are stored for windows to function and also for windows to understand and use programs etc... when programs are uninstalled some registry entries and keys can be left over these can cause unpredictable events such as slow performance or error messages to appear on the screen and even cause the computer to crash

i use four registry checkers to ensure that the registry is completely clear of entries not required

first three are from http://www.freewarefile.com and are very effective just search for them and then run them one by one

glary utilities - more than a registry checker it will also manage your startup programs, optimise memory, clear internet history, remove junk files etc...

argente registry cleaner - thorough registry checke

regscrubvistaxp - deep scan of the registry

i also use advanced windows care personal v2 - link: http://www.download.com/Advanced-Windows...

this suite checks the registry as well as checking for potential threats from spyware etc..

4. make sure you have effective antivirus protection - virus's are the bain of anyones life whilst online and without effective protection your computer can quickly fall victim to attacks

i use AVG free version for antivirus protection - http://free.avg.com as it provides adequate protection for my needs, i also recommend avast if you want to use a different anti-virus

i also use winpatrol from billp studios it monitors your computer and warns if a program is trying to register itself on the computer for auto start or if a program or user makes a change to how windows functions it has detected many activities like this when i have acidentally clicked on a link and then that link attempts to launch a program (potentially a virus) onto my computer with the help of winpatrol you can block this and stop the virus in its tracks - http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html

try my suggetions and in the order i have given you, if the computer is still slow then email me with more details from my profile page and i will help you further

hey there are a few things to do to get your computer faster

first im sure the bulk of the problem is turning it on right? it probably takes like 5 minutes or something lol! first thing we are going to tackle is getting rid of unnecessary programs

go to start>run>type msconfig

the last 2 tabs are services and startup

on the services tab make sure that "Hide all Microsoft Services" is checked. now un check everything there except your antivirus program. on the startup tab un check everything but your antivirus again. click apply and close. it will ask you to restart. let it restart. when your computer comes back from the reboot, a long screen will pop up. check the box that says dont show at startup and your good!

is your computer faster yet? im sure that it turns on alot faster now then it did before!

now you should free up disk space.

open internet explorer and go to tools and options. in the middle where it says temporary internet files click on delete files. if will ask you to confirm, and ask if you want to do offline content also. check it off and click ok. what temporary internet files are is, they save sort of a snapshot of a website when you visit it like yahoo.com, so the next time you access it it loads alot faster because alot of the info is stored locally on your pc. while its going on you will get an hourglass. your computer isnt frozen, its just working. depending on the last time you did it, it might take a few seconds or a few minutes. once its done click the settings button next to it. on the bottom where it says amount of disk space to use change that number to 25mb. and click ok. yes it will take 2 seconds longer to open a page, but its better then waiting on a slow computer. the larger that folder is the longer it will take to load, because each time you go to a website it checks that list. so the smaller the list the faster the new page loads.

next you should delete files from recycling bin. right click on recycling bin and select empty recycling bin. this deletes anything that was in there.

you should also uninstall old programs. you can do that from 2 places. start> control panel> add/remove programs or from ccleaner(described in next paragraph) and go to tools and delete programs you installed but dont use anymore.

you should also run a disk cleanup. this will delete all unnecessary files on your computer. this scan WILL take several minutes to run and several more to complete. start> all programs> accessories> system tools> disk cleanup.

i also recommend running a disk error check. this checks the hard drive to make sure that it is funtcioning at 100%. go to start> my computer. right click on the c drive and go to properties. on the tools tab click check now in error-checking. this will scan the hard drive to make sure everything is ok. first do it with only scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. then if it does have issues run it again with both scan... and automatically fix file system errors.

now what you want to do is download the following programs Auslogics Disk Defrag and Registry Defrag. also get ccleaner. the links to get all of these are at the bottom. first you want to install em all. the first program you want to run is the Disk Defrag. (before you run the actual scan go to settings on the top right and go to the second tab and check off both boxes. also change speed from normal to highest) once this scan is done run ccleaner. this will clean and fix your registry. click the registry button and then scan for issues. once its done click fix selected issues. it will ask you if you want to backup your registry ***** make sure that you back it up!!!!!!***** save it in the default location most likely in the my documents folder. once this is done you will have 3 options. choose fix all selected issues. and ok the pop up. once its done click close. ( helpful hint- i recommend running this program each time you install or uninstall a program on your computer) you should keep scanning until you only get a few issues like less then 10. and dont forget to save each time!

at this point i recommend running the disk defrag again. now your computer will be alot cleaner. final product to run is the Registry Defrag. this is another tool that will fix the registry. make sure that nothing else is running when you run this product!!! it will also force you to reboot when its done.

after your computer comes back run ccleaner and make sure that you dont get any or many issues. if you do let it fix them again. finally run the disk defrag one final time to make sure everything is 100%

i know that this seems like alot but in the end run it will save you alot of time. your computer will run alot faster and smoother now that the system has been cleaned out.

lastly to make sure that your computer stays this good make sure that you run the 2 defrags and ccleaner atleast once a month. i know that window
