Why won't my Mac actually delete files from my memory stick?

I have multiple memory sticks that I use for work. In all cases when I try to delete files from the stick on my Mac it says they are gone but the disk is still full. I have to take the sticks home, plug them into my windows machine, and delete them there to actually remove them. I can't reformat the disk every time I try to delete a file because there are a lot of files left on the memory sticks that I need to keep. Is there a trick to deleting files on a Mac? Seems like if I chose to delete a file it should just go away. I'm very frustrated with Apple anyway and this doesn't help.

The only time a Mac would have a problem is with an ntfs partition. Try formatting the stick with the Mac using the Windows file system.

Thanks for this answer. I couldn't put anything on my memory stick anymore. I followed your advice and could use my memory stick again. Thanks again.

You need to empty the trash while the flash drive is still plugged in. Just trashing files marks them as deleted, so that they are not displayed, but can still be 'salvaged from the trash'. Emptying the trash actually erases and frees up the space.

it may help in case you clarified what you're moving to the trash. documents, ability factors, video clips...? If the products you're attempting to delete are diverse formats, like pronounced above in my answer, than attempt deleting each and each physique by skill of one and seeing which merchandise isn't allowing you. in case you're incredibly doing each and each physique by skill of one already than it incredibly is which you have an utility open that has effects on the deleting technique. want this helps. This has occurred to me till now and that's what I did to ensure this. good success!!
