Yes. There is nothing inherently illegal about the transfer of data.
Using it to transfer copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder is illegal.

You might have validation problems when trying to play NFS Carbon online. Since you're using a stolen/generated serial number, the game servers will see this and refuse a connection. Companies such as Microsoft have been using activation methods for years to combat this, but hackers will usually find ways around the security measures. At some point you'll have to make a decision on weather to buy the software or defeat the copy protection.

It is outlawed to down load copyrighted torrents and you will enter into trouble. I suggest using a VPN service when downloading torrents. I'm using http://www.vpnmaster.org theypermit torrents on their European VPN servers.

It depends on what you download, and what torrent site you use. If it is music, that music is copyrighted. However, some sites only allow you to download files that originate in another country, which skirts the issue of copyright law.

it depends... it is legal if your are using it for sharing normal things like own videos and pictures... but it become illegal if you use for download copyrighted material. In certain countries like mine (lebanon) it is not illegal to download copyrighted material... so you must ask about it before downloading...i have heard about a lot of people getting into trouble for downloading such things. So not all torrents are illegal but because most of the torrents are copyrighted material which is illegal in many countries it is considered illegal...

Each and every torrent client is absolutely legal.
If you are downloading freewares and other free stuff its absolutely legal
but if you download paid softwares , full games, movies or any kind of stuff for which you usually have to pay it is illegal and could land you in trouble.

Depends on what torrent you download.
If the .torrent file is of a movie, game/software or music, there is a very high chance that it is illegal.
However, some torrents are legal such as linux distributions etc.
Basically anything you can already get for free that is on a torrent is probably legal, anything that you usually have to pay for and is on a torrent is illegal.
Also, if its copyrighted, it will be illegal, if not then chances it is legal.

Kind of. I abused my torrent by downloading new music, and movies that were still in the theater, so I got a lovely hate letter from Charter about this.
But on other things it's kind of like making a promise that you only want to listen to it now, and then you will delete it and run out to buy it...which no one really does but it still sounds nice!
