Question:
I got a virus called Irc.Bot..I already scanned a lot but cant get rid of it! HELP!? Read 4 Details please!?
2008-03-07 09:19:46 UTC
Ok, so last Saturday, I already asked this question but nothing worked. I clicked on a link and downloaded something for MySpace, it was like a picture editing program. I never got a program, but instead I got a virus that types out a internet link and its like eross.net/bnakedbp.jpg.ext or something like that every 6 or 7 minutes. I do not dare click on it because I'm sure it will screw everything up more! But what should I do? I did a Norton 360 scan and it found something called W with some numbers IRC.bot and I'm guessing that's whats causing it. I downloaded SpyBot or something similar to that to scan for it but it didn't find it. I'm at school right now but when I get home I guess I will have to find another way to get rid of it. So if anyone can help me SERIOUSLY to get rid of this thing, you'll get 10 points, meaning whoever's answer gets rid of my virus will get it! Please please help me with this, I'm so tired of having to delete it from where I am typing all the time!

@1. Disabling System Restore

1 Click Start.2 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.3 On the System Restore tab, check Turn off System Restore or Turn off System Restore on all drives.

If you do not see the System Restore tab, you are not logged on to Windows as an Administrator.4 Click Apply. 5 When you see the confirmation message, click Yes.6 Click OK.

@2 Scanning for and deleting the infected files.

a)Updating the virus definitions......update ur antivirus definitions......then scan

b)# Run a full system scan.

c)# If any files are detected as infected with Backdoor.IRC.Bot, write down the path and file names,(on a paper) and then click Delete.

@3)Reversing the changes that were made to the registry

# Click Start, and then click Run. (The Run dialog box appears.)

# Type regedit Then click OK. (The Registry Editor opens.)

# Navigate to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\

CurrentVersion\Run

# Refer to the list of infected files that you created while following the instructions in step c of the previous section, "Scanning for and deleting the infected files."

In the right pane, look at the entries in the Name and Data columns. If you find an entry that refers to a file that was detected as infected, select the entry, press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm.

# Exit the Registry Editor.

start your pc in safe mode with networking (hold f8 while booting) then go to c:documents and setting/(your user name) when in this folder go to tools at the top and folder options and click show hidden. Check all the users folders for a "local setting" folder that was hidden before. There is a temp directory there, delete everything, delete you temp internet files and cookies then go to c: windows and delete the items from your temp folder there. after deleting all those things open a web browser and goto www.ewido.com and do a free scan there. After all this run a spybot scan and you should be clean as a whistle.

No one else so far mentioned safe mode but this is imperative to killing the really good viruses

To be honest, Norton is not the best tool. What I would recomend you to do, is to go to this website: http://free.grisoft.com/filedir/inst/avg75free_518a1275.exe

This is a free, and very powerful, anti-virus system. After you get done installing it, do a complete scan of your computer. This will find all your problems and heal them for you. Also as a word of advice: SpyBot is not a trusted application. I found that out the hard way. I hope this answers your question, and good luck.

Since you have tried lot of thing, I assuem

1.you have good patience

2.you want to fix it very urgently.

Try these two (ref ponit 1)

Install Kaspersky Antivirus and Scan : ONLY FULL SCAN and dont keep exceptions

Install SUPERAnti-Spyware and full scan

Both takes time (Better done at night)

Donot quarantine, Just delete

Also visit Start>Run>Msconfig

Check the Startup tab, see if anything is ticked, if yes, uncheck everything and reboot, see if it helps

(Install Startupmanager else and repair as you like, download from MS)

Also try this,

If you have Spybot, Immunize everything only after Full scan and deletion of any Virus.

And then install trail of Anti-Rootkit scanner from Trend and scan.

Hope this helps.

Seems you got plenty of help here already but I just wanted to share my experience with removing viruses. Normally I would first perform a boot time scan with Avast. This seems to be a feature that most antivirus don't even have.

The good thing about a boot time scan is that it will scan your computer before the virus or trojan loads itself into memory.

Found a site with the instructions, hope this helps you out, good luck :)

try a system restore to last week before you downlaoded the the picture but if you did that already and it STiLL is there

then i suggest you downlaod AVG antivirus its WAY BETTER

than that Sucky Norton Antivurs

personally to me NORTON SUCKS thats why you have problems thats a 2nd rate virus detector i had it last year and got rid of it the

THE programs i use to keep my laptop in great shape are as follows:

Windows firewall (duh)

AVG-virus software(must have)

AVG-Antispyware

Spybot-Search and destroy

Reg cure

Tune up utilites

if you have all 6 of these or at least 3 you will almost NEVER have problems

good luck

well first your better off with AVG or Avast then Norton, they are both free anti-viruses. I personally use NOD32. I would get rid of norton and try one of the free ones with the most in depth scan you can. Also with the free adware programs your going to need several of them to cover all the bases.

try these security programs

superantispyare and spyware terminator

avast or antivir

found at www.filehippo.com

first run superantispyware (it is sure to find the problem)

if you can't get rid of the virus, the best thing for you to do is quarantine it.

also try CCleaner (and clean your registry)
