So, I have windows 7. I have a move (AVI) on my computer which came with a separate SRT file containing the subtitles. I can watch it fine on the computer, as long as I select the SRT file to display the subtitles.

But I want to burn this movie onto a DVD, and do not know how to include the SRT file when I'm burning it. Is there a free dvd program that supports SRT files for subtitles?

I tried a program titled AVI MUX GUI that is supposed to be able to combine the AVI and SRT file into one. It appeared to work, but when I burned the dvd with Windows DVD Maker the subtitles still did not show up.

i had the EXACT same problem. this works PERFECTLY.

k. 1. so download the newest version of virtual dub mod. This is perfectly safe freeware, don't worry.

2. Next, go here:http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters.html and download the first link there, called subtitler2 -4. This will be a .vdf file.

3. Download any SRT to SSA (sub station alpha is a much better subtitle file, you can change font, colour etc of all you srt's if you want too).

4. open virtual dub and open the video file you want.

5. in virtual dub, go to videos>filters>add>load> and find the subtitler.vdf file you downloaded. click it.

6. There'll be a long list of filters, scroll down click subtitler and click ok.

7. Click the three dots that are now there and find the .ssa subtitle file you want on your movie. click on it.

8. finally, check under video and audio and make sure full processing mode is clicked

9. lastly, file>save as avi. AND BAM. It makes a new avi file with your subtitles on it without losing ANY quality. LITERALLY. It doesn't touch you're video file's quality, just mixes the subtitles in.

GOOD LUCK =D

oh and i would use a different burning program, such as nero 9 to burn the movie. BURN IT AS A DATA FILE. dvd maker tries to change the file entirely so just burn it as a data disc and u can pklay it on pc, ps3, and xbox. Some dvd players may not be able to handle the file (depending whether it is a divx or xvid codec)

I think this is AVI MUX GUI problem, burn AVI movie file with srt subtitle onto dvd to play well on dvd player, you need to use a right program to help you, but I don't think there's a good free program that can fit your demand, because I had tried many free programs, but none of them work well, some unstable, some poor quality, some even viruses, so if you will, you can follow me to use a good and inexpensive program RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any movie files with srt subtitle files to video dvd and burn to any dvd disc(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc.), such as convert AVI movie file with SRT file to video dvd and burn onto dvd disc, easy to use, insert a DVD disc into your computer dvd burner drive, run RZ DVD Creator, select the dvd burner drive as the target folder, directly drag and drop your avi movie file into the software, then press SUBTITLE button to add srt file on avi file, at last press START button, you will get a video DVD with subtitle, and you can play the burned video dvd well on dvd player with subtitle. Provide the better quality and more functions. You can yahoo or google search and download RZ DVD Creator, hope it could help you.

I think the best DVD creator is convertXtoDVDs, it is able to burn any video and movie in all media type to DVD-5 and DVD-9, make the DVD playable on DVD player.

You also can create DVD Menu and add subtitles(SRT, .SUB/IDX, .SSA) to DVD Videos with VSO ConvertXtoDVD. It can create NTSC DVD and PAL DVD with high quality.

You can download it here:http://convertxtodvd.kooksoft.com
