Make sure you virus checker and adawar and spybot or whatever ARE up to date. Not just seem to be. Then run them all. You may well have a virus.

If XP or Vista. turn system restore off (you will lose any restore points but they would be infected anyway) If you don't know how type system restore in start > help and support.

if this doesn't do it:may be corrupted driver files.

you need to access device manager to remove the device and then restart the machine to have it reinstall it with freshh driver files.

try cleaning your touchpad first, remove any dirt, crumbs etc. especially at the right side. if this doesn't solve your problem, restart your laptop, go to safe mode (by hitting F8 just before windows bootscreen appears, then choose safe mode from the menu). try opening some windows to check if scrolling problem persists, if it does - and you're sure that the touchpad is thoroughly cleaned - then it might be a hardware issue; if there's no problem in your scrolling on safe mode, my best bet is that your touchpad drivers are corrupted. nest thing to do is to go to device manager (right click my computer, select properties, then select hardware tab, then device properties), select your touchpad, delete it, and restart your laptop. hopefully windows will then reinstall your touchpad drivers by then, or if not just reinstall it yourself using the CD that came with your laptop...

Clean your pad. Chances are, the scrollbar thing (on the right where you drag your finger) is dirty. Is something wedged in a corner? use a toothpick to take crumbs out, if so.. You may be able to turn it off in preferences (the scrollbar thing on touchpad).
