Why do multiple files burn slower than a single file assuming same total size?

Question

say you have 10 multiple files totaling 100 MB and 1 file totalling 100 MB. Why does the multiple file burn slower?

What takes a lot of time is starting and finishing a given file - you have to open it, close it, create a directory entry, etc. If you have one file, you do that once. If you have 100 files, you do it 100 times.

when a file gets burnt in the CD it has to make note of the starting address and the end address and the links to the contents in different parts of the CD.



when there are multiple files it has to make say 10 different entries to distinguish 10 different files. but it should be of considerable time not much of difference in the time you should be experiencing :-(
