Question:
I can't log into my computer?

When I turn my computer on and click on my username, a message pops up that says "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile..."

Then another will pop up and say "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging in with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

And none of my folders are on this "temporary" profile, its just an HP background, an icon for the internet, and a few other icons.

Do you think all of my files and everything is lost for good? Any ideas on how to get back to my real profile?

You didn't delete your other log-on profile besides administrator, did you? I did that once, then ran a registry cleaner & happily deleted 200+ unneeded files. Unneeded because the "username" account & all others except Administrator were gone. I couldn't get XP running so I went into Safe Mode ( Press F8 before Windows loads & use your keyboard up or down arrow & then "Safe Mode" then Enter) . There I had to run System Restore. If I had realized my account profile also was gone I wouldn't have started any of that. XP needs NOT to run in Administrator mode all the time I've been told. You know what 1\2 ast recommendations are? This guy said "save space". I guess I didn't follow the directions.

Your files are probably still safe. Look for them in the Documents and Settings folder off your C drive (or whatever drive windows is installed on). Then there should be a folder for your username. Inside should be a number of different folders. Your My Documents folder should be there and there are also folders for your Desktop and Start Menu. If you create a new user, then copy these folders to that user's folder, then you should have all your stuff moved over.

If you can't see all the folders, Click on Tools -> Folder Options, then click on the second tab I believe (it's on one of the tabs anyway). You'll see a bunch of check boxes. One of the options is Hide Hidden and System files, uncheck that and you should be able to see them.

Your files are still there because no one has deleted them.

You need to log on as the Administrator and sort out your profile.

log into temporary profile, then use "System Restore" to a date before the problem happens.
