I had problems with pop-ups and spyware on my ACER laptop which i could not get rid of so i decided to reboot with the windows anytime upgrade cd supplied.

When it came to the installation process there was the option to create a new partition which i did not know anything about. I clicked on my C: drive and it said that it would install over the current vista and would create a folder named "old version of windows" and some features would not work..

I then clicked on DATA D: drive and created a partition on this drive and the installation began. Now when i boot up my laptop the black screen appears and shows 2 versions of windows vista to choose from and it doesnt shutdown anymore.

Would i be able to clean my DATA D: drive and un-install vista?

Would i then be able to clean my ACER C: drive and un-install vista and then install again from scratch like when i first got my laptop?

Any help would be great and step by step instructions would be excellent...thanks

Hi Backup any files you want to keep the format the drive completely. Reinstall Vista and you should be OK.

I just reinstalled Vista a few nights ago and i opted to keep the old partision and got the message that it would install over the current vista and would create a folder named "old version of windows" and allso said some of the old program may not work anylonger.

I did'nt click anything else like you did i just went ahead and reinstalled Vista and followed any prompts that i got and all went well. The computer is working like it is brand new except the mouse will freeze up and allso at times the screen will freeze up. I had these problems befor i reinstalled Vista but i had checked for Virus's,worms, spyware etc and got nothing so out of desperation i reinstalled the os.

The conclusion that i have came to is i have something going wrong in the mother board or Hard Drive and i am going to be makeing a trip to a computer repair shop weather i like it or not.

Getting back to your problem your going to have to do anouther reinstall and i would allso choose to create my own new partision this time.

Good luck

First Option (If you don't want to delete any data from drive D)

1) First uninstall the the latest installed vista on D drive (Start/Control Panel/Programs & Features) then you can find vista ....uninstall it

Second Option (If ou want your laptop like when you first got it)

1) Go to Start/Control Panel and then swith to classic view on the left side of the screen.... then Administrative Tools/Computer Management

2) On the left side you'll see a list... click on Storage and access Disk Management

3) Right click on D drive and then format the drive using NTFS (this might take awhile)

4) After that insert win vista disk then reboot the computer and then press F4 while booting

5) Format your C Drive and then reinstall Win Vista

Additional Information

If you don't want pop-ups in IE (Internet Explorer)

press F10 then tools Pop-up blocker then pop-up blocker settings and change the filter level to high

If you don't want spyware download Norton 360 or any other antivirus softwares

but it depends what kind of problems you're facing

Cheers

Hope this information was useful

records will stay only high-quality, that's the put in application that should be reinstalled. documents won't misplaced off the 2d stress, yet needless to say will finally end up as documents with a sparkling set up of homestead windows.

you want to format each drive. so you can use vista cd to reinstall, when you are asked which drive to install, format/delete drives d and c. then install
