There is no "best" version of Linux... It depends on the job at hand.

Ubuntu is the most POPULAR Linux distro at the moment... It is a very good distro for users transitioning from windows, it has good support, certain versions (that are labeled LTS) have "Long Term Support" Meaning you won't "have" to upgrade for many years to receive security updates, etc...

I happen to be booted into Kubuntu at the moment, but on my laptop I also have BackTrack 3 Linux, and Gentoo Linux. Each has it particular uses. Gentoo if I need to set up a temporary router, want updated packages etc. BT3 for security analysis/hacking... I really only use Kubuntu to keep "up to date" with it since I have it on my wife and daughter's PC's, and generally recommend it to friends who are interesting in trying Linux.

I prefer Gentoo, which is also what runs on my servers at work, all my customer's servers, and my own server at home, but I'd be an idiot to recommend Gentoo to a complete Linux neophyte... It has a LOT of advantages over other distros, but isn't what I'd consider a "beginners" Linux.

Personally I like Pardus. However, if you want to go with Ubuntu use Kububtu it is the same thing but with the K desktop Environment. I like KDE's graphics better. But if you are planning on dual booting your hard drive be really careful and MAKE SURE TO BACK IT UP. Because I tried to dual-boot Windows and Kubuntu and even though I successfully partitioned the hard drive and told it not to format my windows Partion it deleted Windows.Anyways, check out Pardus. Hope that helps.

Best?

It is the better version in my opinion.

It basically runs on first install ("out of the box"). There have been several updates since the release and it gets better every day. (FireFox 3 Official-Not Beta), Open Office, 2 kernel updates are among the biggest updates

Ubuntu is Debian and prepackaged applications.....

The best version is the one that meets your needs. Ubuntu is one of the more well known distros. Knoppix is a favorite of mine because it requires no install and all history is gone when you shut off or reboot.

I think ubuntu is easiest Linux distro. It has wubi so that we can install it in windows without partitioning hard drive.

You can check many tutorials about ubuntu here:

Ubuntu and RedHat seem to be the favorites. I've used both and don't really have a preference. It's like comparing Mac to Windows.
