what just happened to my computer? a blue screen, too panicked to read much.?

well umm, my computer just completely screwed up. the screen turned blue with words. i was too panicked to read much other than that it saved a bunch of stuff back onto my disk while asking me to disable any cacheing abilities on safe mode. i recall reading the word "dump" but i'm not sure where.... HELP?

It would have helped to know what the blue screen error message was, as they are all different and mean different things. Here is a list of blue screen error message, but I do believe they are only for XP, but perhaps the site has been updated with vista errors as well.

Just whatever you do, do not unplug the computer, hold down the power button this will restart the computer. You only unplug it as a last resort.

This has happened to me several times. You can't even turn off the computer right. Unplug it and replug it in. It'll be ok. There's all kinds of weird things that go on and I don't know if we'll ever know the reason. But you should be ok after the above.
