I have a network drive that I can get to by going to Computer and double clicking on the drive, W:\. I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I can go to my W drive, and search things in the W drive in the upper right corner of the window. When I click on the Start Button, I can type in the search menu and find stuff on my local drive.

I want to configure the search in the Start Button menu to search both my local drive AND my network drive (W:\) at the same time. I do not want to copy any files onto my local machince.

Any way to do this? Thanks in advanced. I will come back to rate.

I'm doing this using a Vista PC but I'm hoping it's the same for Win 7

type indexing options in the start menu search box and open it

click on modify

click show all locations

hopefully the network drive will show up in the list and you can add it to the index

just be aware that indexing may take longer - your PC may experience slow downs not to mention your network

if you just need to search file names on the network drive rather than file contents, try a free lightning fast tool called Everything

IF those are the ONLY drives you have, use advanced search to search ALL drives.

Otherwise, you will have to search one at a time or write a multiple search program.
