Not knowing safe browsing, not knowing how to properly maintain a PC, etc. People would do well just to take a 50 dollar PC and internet course. They would save TONS of money. Your PC is probably so full of malware its not funny. Most likely, you have downloaded and install a ton of freeware thats running in the background.

In my opinion, your CPU usage was enough, for this question, the major reason is your EXE files were infected with virus; I suggest that you should download some antivirus software to clean up these virus.

The second one, you want to improve your computer performance, I suggest that you could do some methods, such as:

1. Delete programs you never use.

2. Limit how many programs load at startup.

3. Defragment your hard drive.

4. Clean up your hard disk.

5. Check for updates.

6. Clean Registry Errors.

The suggestions will solve your problems, if you are a PC professional, you can use some Windows built-in tools, if you are a PC newbie, you could use a piece of system optimizer software to improve your PC performance.

The software is Perfect Optimizer.

After you have run Norton, my suggestion is to run a registry cleaner as well. I am not sure whether you have installed and uninstalled too many programs on the computer. If so, there must be a lot of useless, corrupted, damaged or missing entries on the registry. Therefore, in order to speed up computer, it is a must to clean your registry.

And I recommend this website for you cause I am using this product now:

1) Norton itself will cause a computer to run slow...but typically for the first five minutes

2) Uninstall any downloaded program file from the web except those you know you use

3) On internet explorer, go to internet options then clear history and delete temporary files in your cache. You may also have temp files in other locations.

4) go to tools/control panel and click the Java icon. Delete everything in the java cache. Go to add/remove programs, then delete your version(s) of java on the machine. Go to Sun.com and download the newest version.

5) Backup any local files you have to a CD/DVD then try a system restore to a very early point.

6) delete shockwave and other active x installations. You can start with Internet options/programs/manage add ons.

Good luck - agree with the other poster who said you may have malware at work.

The problem with slow computers is that most of the time. It's all to do with a hidden part of your system .This part of your system is called the 'registry' and is a huge database which stores all the settings and options for your PC.The reason why the registry is responsible for making your computer run slow is because it is actually prone to getting corrupt and damaged. Because Windows is constantly using the database when you're using your computer, it's constantly got 100's of registry files open. This unfortunately means that Windows gets confused, leading it to save the registry files wrong, making them incredibly difficult for your computer to read. Think of them as files which are all jumbled up, making your computer have to spend longer to read them. You just need to be able to clean out all the damaged files from the registry, allowing Windows to read all the files it needs, when it needs them. And to do this, you just need to use a tool called a 'registry cleaner'.I should like to commend Registry Easy to you !http://clean-computer-run-quickly.com

1) Download Avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html Run it. Stop Norton. Remove it. Norton is bloated and slow. And not all that good.

2) Read http://webdingers.com/wordpress/2009/07/faster/ To make a computer faster, you have to find out WHY it's slower.
