Hello everyone,

I received a .ics file in my email. I realize that it's a calendar file but I don't know how to open it through the calendar. I've tried Yahoo! and Google calendars but they don't give me the option of opening the event.

I'm completely lost and would appreciate any advice you guys can give me.
Thanks!

If you save the ICS file, you should be able to doubleclick it if you have the correct software installed. If not, it should be (barely) human-readable if you open it in notepad.

For other tips and tricks for ICS files, try this:

.ics files are used to store of calendar information (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar). They're used whenever you export your calendar from Google Calendar, Outlook, Lotus Notes or can be used for meeting invites, restaurant bookings, flight reservations etc.

You can use https://icsconvert.appspot.com/ to convert them to .csv so you can view them in a spreadsheet.

Install Sunbird http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird/download.html It can use ics files. (So can Lightning in Thunderbird.)

It's for Apple's iCalender. Unless you are on a Mac OS you are probably out of luck. It may work with Outlook though as a sort of VCard. Try importing it into your Outlook client if you are using Windows.
