For a PC, the printer port or Parallel Port, the port with 25 pins (similar to the Serial Port, which as 9 pins only) is usually at the back. For a Laptop, it can either be at the back or sides.
Also, a printer may be connected to your pc or laptop using a USB port, which can be either at the front or back of a PC, and at the back or sides of a laptop.
But first ... maybe you just need to check your pc's printer configuration.
Click on START.
Then click on SETTINGS.
Then PRINTERS and FAXES.
You will then get the PRINTERS and FAXES window.
1. Do you see any printer device shown in the window?
There should be a PRINTER icon, FAX icon, MICROSOFT OFFICE IMAGE WRITER icon, or any other device icon.
If you see a PRINTER icon, does it have a small, CHECK beside it? The printer icon should also show the STATUS of the device. Is it READY, PAUSED, or does not show any status?
If you have a printer installed, and it is not configured to be your DEFAULT PRINTER (no check mark beside it), go ahead and RIGHT CLICK on the Printer Icon. Then click on "SET AS DEFAULT PRINTER".
Click on "APPLY" and "OK".
REBOOT YOUR PC (turn off PC, then turn back on) or
CLICK on Start, then "Turn Off Computer", then "Restart".
2. If you do NOT see any Printer Icon in the Printers and Faxes Window, click on "Add a Printer" under "Printer Tasks" on your left. This will guide you to add your printer.
DO NOT FORGET TO:
Make your printer the DEFAULT PRINTER.
Once you Added A Printer, RIGHT-CLICK on the Printer Icon and click on SET AS DEFAULT PRINTER.
REBOOT your pc.
Upon startup, you will be able to use your printer.
GOOD LUCK!
