it may be you have a corrupted hard drive, you're pc cant find the operating system, if the hd is faulty you may have to get a new one, if the operating system is corrupted you may be able to re install 'windows' over it, did it come with a 'back up' disc as this will have all the drivers on it.

but before re installing windows try this, restart and tap F8, (straight away just after pressing the 'on' button you have to do this before windows tries to boot) you should come to a black screen with white writing on (you wont be able to use you're mouse now so use the arrow keys on the keyboard) there will be a few options on here try the one that says something like 'last best configuration' highlight it (using the arrow keys) and press 'enter' (on keyboard) and see if this works if not do the same as above but instead of choosing 'last known good configuration' choose 'safe mode' a stream of writing will move up you're screen and eventually you will be asked 'do you want to use 'system restore' choose yes/ok and restore you're pc to a date before this problem, remember after the restore (if it works) anything added to you're pc after the date chosen will be lost so update (again) windows and you're anti virus..

if this is a hardware problem (damaged h/d) you will have to replace it and re install windows and then everything will be lost that you had on there before, if you are going to re install Windows remember you have to go into the 'bios' and change the 'boot' sequence so that it will boot from you're cd/dvd rom (as that will be where you're windows cd will be) different pcs has a different key to press to get into the bios but it usually flashes up on you're screen just before windows starts it says 'setup then an F number' this is a time consuming process (especially if you have to find all you're drivers) if you are going to re install windows look on the net for a step by step guide on 'clean install of xp/vista/w7 (which ever is you're operating system)

the advise above about 'safe mode' is for XP but it might/could work with other operating systems

good luck

hi, (ANS) the respond is which you have an incorrect boot up sequence defined interior the device BIOS. to restoration that's rather straightforward & rather straightforward, all you would be able to desire to do, is reboot your pc and key F1 or it would desire to F2 at initiate so as to open (enter) the setup reveal screen for the device BIOS. **next interior of your machines device BIOS look for the article referred to as "Boot sequence" , open up the boot sequence concepts. Now set the boot sequence concepts to No.a million A: floppy, No.2 CD or DVD next and ultimately no.3 difficult disk stress C: (that's truly the final order wherein the device could artwork). **The BIOS will first look to work out in case you have a floppy disk in stress A: and while it unearths no longer something, it next exams the CD or DVD stress and if it unearths no longer something it ultimately could come across your machines difficult disk stress & then load the OS i.e. domicile windows XP. **Its in straightforward terms pausing because of the fact it feels like the boot sequence is erroneous. **the final BIOS order is as above no.a million,no.2,no.3 (this enables you besides the device from a floppy or bootable CD disk in case you have extreme device issues. Or would desire to run an XP fix console etc. or possibly run a fix from the domicile windows XP disk that got here alongside with your device. desire that facilitates? variety Regards from Ivan pc veteran,MCSE knowledgeable.

Try starting in safe mode and doing a windows restore to a date before you had this problem.
