Question:
My computer games run slow or have bad graphics. Can somebody PLEASE help me?
2008-11-29 15:29:24 UTC
I've asked this before but no one answered.

Specs:
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium.
DXV: DirectX 10
P: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7000 @ 2.53GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
Memory: 2046mb ram
System Model: EP45-DS3
Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

It happened a week ago when all the games either ran slow after a few minutes or have extremely poor graphics. I've had the box for about 3 months and it ran fast and graphics were good. Then all of a sudden i was playing Fallout 3 (Using No-CD patch) and it started run slow and choppy after a few weeks of playing it.
I've checked for viruses with CA security center but nothing was found. I've also had a problem with my cd drive (It wasn't reading any cd's, at all) but i fixed that by deleting the upper filter file and rebooting. I think the computer updated itself the day before it started to run like this. Hopefully someone can help!!

Also, the computer was custom built and kept restarting itself continuously when i first had it and I had to take it back to the manufacturers a few times for them to fix it properly.

There are a several reasons why your computer is freezing/slow. First question is when the last time you cleaned your registry. Having a corrupted registry can cause a whole host of errors and problems. Freezing up is one of them. If you have a lot of unnecessary registry keys that are hogging up your computer resources. Your computer is bound to choke. Scan your registry with a good registry cleaner. If you pull up more than 20 errors or duplication, clean your registry.

Go to:http://tpdownload.net get one to free scan your pc

2. Depending on your RAM specs and your computer usage. This could also be the issue. Having an insufficient amount of free space does not allow your RAM to function properly. If you are using a lot of RAM by net surfing or other activities without enough empty space your will get freezes. You don't need to buy new RAM but you should increase your free space by removing unnecessary data and perhaps increasing your virtual memory. The below link will show you how.

3. Spyware could be the culprit, so do a scan and see if your computer is infected.

Get the best one from: <--http://toptenantispyware.com to scan your computer.

4. That last area is a hardware driver. This could be the problem if new hardware has been added to the system. So, the drivers should still be up to date. So try the first two suggestions and see if you can get your computer to stop freezing/speed up.

Check your drivers. Hope this helps.

Deleting shortcuts does help but because they are so small, it won't change much at all. You would have to delete 1000 shortcuts to make a difference. Remove all unimportant programs, such as unused games. Buying a new memory board can be quite expensive, I just recommend buying memory itself, which can be added into slots on the motherboard, closing applications running helps, turning your printer or speakers on and off doesn't help what so ever. All the things you mentioned slow down your computer. In order to speed up it if you have vista, get a large capacity flash drive around 4 gigabytes. Then use its readyboost function. Otherwise just add as much memory to your computer.

Install all these programs while your computer is able to.

Make sure you get the Vista or Beta version of each one.

By running all these programs you eliminate any software faults. If you still have problems then you need to start looking at hardware or configuration faults.

From my notes

Also while your computer is in good nick you should download these programs as a Save, then install from that file. All these programs do different stuff, the end result is your computer runs a lot better. Use all of them.

Clean Up Computer

CCleaner (about 10 minutes to install and run)

=========

google ccleaner and install it.from filehippo While it installs just untick the boxes as some you dont want.

run the cleaner in windows/applications but dont tick the bottom 11 boxes in the Windows Tab.

run the registry cleaner as well, when it asks to back up the registry , allow it to do it, then clean the registry. You may have to clean the registry a few times, but you do not need to save it each time.

Superantispyware (1 hour)

===============

http://www.superantispyware.com

Has a stop homepage from being altered which is good

Can reset windows defaults in various parts

Download and run superantispyware.

Install it and set the preferences to monitor your home page.

Set up tick boxes that you want in the other tabs as you require.

You don’t need to run it at startup unless you want the antispyware protection 24/7.

Note Superantispyware has powerful reset tools that will set stuff back to windows defaults.

To use these tools click preferences >repairs. This may be handy to reset IE URLS if you have annoying pop ups.

Superantispyware is a good program and remember to update it before scanning. A scan may take 45mins. Just run a scan for the first attack.

Spybot – Search and Destroy (1 hour)

=====================

Download spybot search and destroy. Through its immunize page and link to javacools spyblaster, spybot can manage activex problems which is extremely difficult for antispyware programs to find. Also just run the scan for first attack.

http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html

MalwareBytes (1 hour)

==============

http://www.malwarebytes.org

This is a neat little program to scan for annoying pop ups and adverts.

Windows Live Onecare (2-3 hours)

===================

Onecare safety scan fixes registry and finds temp files that nothing else seems to find.

Choose the Beta Edition link for vista users.

It does registry, spyware , virus , disk clean up and defrag

XP Users http://onecare.live.com/site/en-ca/defau...

Vista Users

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-ca/center/whatsnew.htm

Run the full safety scanner, it takes a few seconds to install the scanning files but when you start the scan, it takes 2 hours or more. Let it load the scanning tools, then start the Safety Scan. So once it starts to load the safety scans' x file of x , you can leave the computer and go to bed etc.

Then at the end of the scan it asks you to set it running full time.

Think twice about setting it to run in the background as it could be another thing to slow you down. However, it may be worth while if you have no other security programs running.

Now you should be flying and Onecare has even set up a new system restore point for you.

Note onecare does other stuff as well. Click on the menus on the LHS column., but all of this is done if you click Safety Scan.

add onecare to your favourites

Set up IE7 so it runs efficiently.

IE7 (2 minutes)

=======

Over time IE7 seems to set its own (or programs do) tick boxes in the advance tab.

In IE7 Tools >Internet Options >Advance Tab

Click Restore advance settings defaults button.

Then scroll the listings down to near the bottom and:

1. Tick empty temp files when browser closes (this empties the cache, which if not empty, will stop you from going online).

2. Bullet disable phishing filter (optional. Leave it on if you want that type of protection, usually for financial data like internet banking)

Delete Browser History, cookies, add ons, the whole lot regularly.

Close the browser to set the settings.

Phishing Filter

When first released, phishing filter slowed IE7. Apparently, Microsoft has fixed this through the windows updates. If you like you could try to run it - bullet the enable.

Ensure only one phishing filter program, and only one firewall program is used on the computer. Disable others that may be in other software.

.

Fixing Your Computer

Run the scans of the three programs above, generally is enough, but if your computer is still faulty then you have to go deeper with the features mentioned.

Dear friend,

Greetings in peace, love and light. Based on your description you computer seem to be perfect but I guest your computer having to much clutters.

Remember you have only 1023mb free of ram after half of it used to run you Vista OS and only half of it that you can utilize and if you have install a lot of program added with internet clutters and undeleted temporary files then you computer memory will be down.

Get this 30 days trial sofware to clean up un needed files in your computer http://www.privacyeraser.com/ I have been cleaning almost 1gb un needed files including internet clutter in daily basis.

In peace, love and light.

No-CD Patches are useful but they broke your graphic, try to play the game as you played before without No-CD Patch it will work with cool graphic try and you will see :)

Check the CPU temp from the BIOS, it must be below 40 idle, and your CPU fan speed.

and if its okay then there must be something wrong with your PSU.

2 gigs isn't enough for vista... you should have at least 3, your caching to the hard drive, and that's slow.
