Question:
I have a problem with Windows XP.?

Each time I start up my Windows XP computer, it begins to download what is refered to as updates

Sometimes the downloads state "1 of 1", and sometimes the downloads state 1 of 13 or numbers higher that "1".

I have talked to other people with Windows XP, including a man who builds computers, and they all say they have never seen their Windows
updating.

Can somebody tell me what's going on here ?

So these guys have never seen Windows update. They must be kidding you.

It happens a minimum of once a month and normally on the first tuesday and sometimes even more than once if need be.

What's pretty unusual is that each time you start your computer, windows tries to update. Try to turn off the automatic update (configuration panel / security center) and see if it stops.

Then go to Microsoft update website and do update your computer, then go back to security center and turn the automatic update back to on again.

I don't really know either as I have Windows XP also, but it does not do that on my computer. The only thing I know would be to go to "Start", then "Control Panel", click on "Programs" and check the listing to see if there is an Automatic Update one. It may be listed under a site name, such as " Global Automatic Updater" or something like that. If there is, it can be deleted

IF you have an active internet connection and your windows update is also active in control panel, then let it update first and do all the procedure!! if its shows you that your computer has been updated, then the problem will also gone.

If you don't want to download any updates from Microsoft then you must turn off windows update by going to Control Panel>Automatic Updates

and turning off them

Hope this will surely solve your problem ( there is nothing to be Panic for this)

Good Luck

Windows Xp does update automatically. You can set it that you have to update manually off of the microsoft website.

You can disable the auto update. However its not recommended always keep your system uptodate. To disable auto update Right click on my computer icon, click properties, click Automatic Updates, and click Turn off Automatic Updates.
