i tried following everything possible when searching 'paging file too small?' on google, and i've restarted my computer, but still can't manage to fix this problem.

it's starting to bug me, as i'm trying to make a video on windows movie maker, and the whole paging file issue isn't cooperating with me.

what can i do?

Virtual memory is the swap space alloted on the hard disk. It has a minimum and a maximum value. The default minimum is equal to the physical RAM on your pc. and the maximum is one and half times the RAM.

You can find the virtual memory setting on the location in winXP

start > control panel > system > advanced > performance settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory Change

select the hard disk partition.

select the custom size radio button. Enter values.Press OK

Allocate VM on all partitions of the hard disk.

Have you tried defragmenting the Pagefile? It can have a real negative effect on performance if it gets to fragmented. You need a special utility to do this and it's at this link.

Another way is to delete it and let Windows build a new one. this is a bit more complicated. You will need to boot to DOS and have the ATTRIB.EXE command in the path. If I've confused you already, send me an email.

The pagefile is usually in the root directory of the C drive. It won't be visible, but it is called pagefile.sys. At the command prompt c:\>, type ATTRIB -H -R -S PAGEFILE.SYS and enter. This removes the hidden, Read only System file attributes.

Now you can delete it.

Restart windows, see if that works. If not, you may just need to shut down a few things or add more memory to your system.

Good luck.

A print screen is saving every single bit of data that makes up what you are seeing on your screen at that very moment. The image is large, detailed, and therefore significant in size. A web page normally consists of strings of text that codify the layout and words, as well as the positions of images that normally consist of much smaller, much lower-quality files that do not nearly measure up to the complexity of the amount of code required for an entire print screen image.

I would recommend increasing your computer memory (RAM). Windows operating system uses paging only when it cant find enough RAM. Hence adding more RAM should help you to run Movie Maker (which consumes lots of RAM).
