If you have more data then a cd will hold consider a crossover cable, it will allow you to directly connect both PC.
While the crossover cable is connected you will only have access to the other machine and you will need to manually setup the IP information. Then enable file and print sharing on both machines.
suggested IP
Machine 1
10.0.0.10
255.255.255.0
10.0.0.10
Machine 2
10.0.0.20
255.255.255.0
10.0.0.10
This should work and keep you from wasting a CD or going through the setups of transferring from one computer to an external computer and back down to the new computer.

The easiest way, would be to transfer them via a network. You can burn them to cd, or put them on a jump drive and use something called the sneakernet (physically walking the files from one computer to the other with a cd or jump drive). If both computers have a network card installed on them, you can transfer files from one computer to the other with one of two ways. You can either 1, buy a hub or a switch and set up a small home network with the network setup wizard that takes a matter of 2 minutes to set up. Connecting both computers to the switch or hub with a straight through cat 5 network cable. Or you can not buy the hub or switch, and buy a cross over cat 5 network cable, connect one end to one computer and the other end to the other computer and run the network setup wizard. Once the network is set up either way you choose, create a shared folder on the old computer, place all your files in that folder that you want copied. Then on the new computer, you can access that shared folder and copy them over to whatever folder you wish on the new computer.

that depends upon which files you want to transfer...
you can use jump drive/flash drive/pen drive
burn CD
Synchronize machines on a common network and transfer data
Move the hard disk from old machine and install it in the new one....(not recommended...:-))
upload files from old machine into FTP server/Yahoo briefcase etc and copy it into new machine.....
I am sure these are enough to get you started....:-)
P.S. - Just make sure to use atleast two methods so that there is always scope for disaster recovery....:-)

you can also use the file settings and transfer wizard, but it requires removing your old hard drive and placing it in your new computer.
