I downloaded a .mov file and I can not drag and drop to the trash bin or any other folders. It stays on my desktop. When I try to right click, all i get open-with and send to. I cant not send it anywhere. I cant open or play it. It just sits there. I tired using programs but when i try to delete it says: "file not found." How do i get rid of it!

sometimes when you delete a file, the computer lags and doesn't delete it's icon. usually restarting the computer will fix this. Unless if the Mov was a virus that makes it so it can't be deleted in which case u'll need anti virus software. AVG is always good if ur broke.

Make sure all of your browsers are closed and you're disconnected from the internet before doing this to make sure the internet connection is not affecting this file in any way.

Try right-clicking the desktop and select "Refresh" to try to make it disappear if it claims it isn't there.

If that doesn't work, restart your computer in safe-mode using the typical mashing of the F8 key before boot up.

When you're in safe mode and logged under Administrator, open up the command prompt by pressing your Windows key + R to open Run. Type "cmd" without quotes and press enter. This will bring up your command prompt.

type "CD Desktop" without quotes

press enter

type "DIR" without quotes

press enter

Do you see your file in the list of files that show up?

If you do, delete it by typing:

"DEL blah.mov" without quotes

(obviously replace blah with whatever the file is called"

press enter

Reboot your computer afterward and log in as usual... the file should now be deleted.

when i try removing or uninstalling quicktime it fails because it needs to terminate a process which i cannot pinpoint - something to do with explorer which if terminated ends the removal process??

one solution (one file at a time) is the following:

CTRL+ALT+DEL to start task manager

terminate explorer

from task manager select FILE>RUN

type in cmd

then at the prompt type del then the FULL path name

i.e.

del C:usersjoe bloggsdesktopfilename.mov

Hope it helps you.

if above does not work.

try a CTRL+ALT+Delete, click on the Applications tab, click New Task, Click Browse, and try deleting it from there.

If that fails, try a program like "Unlocker" i use it on my machine and it comes in handy all the time

Shut down. Wait a minute. Turn on again. It should either be gone or you can drag to trash.
