I had a similar issue, different virus. the PC started sometimes Windows, sometimes not. Once I got it started again on those occasions, I backed up all my files and pictures, my e-mail files (check with the program you use, as to how to do this), all "Favourites" ( bookmarks) and did a list of programmes I had added and then wiped my disk completely clean.
The back-up was done onto an external hard drive, which I always used for file and picture back-up. It was not infected.
Then I reloaded all programs from the supplied source disc ( they come with every PC), leaving out those I did not want or use.
After missing a few extensions and drivers, and installing those, my PC runs like new!! Actually, it runs better, since a lot of stuff it came with is no longer there.
Take your time and document every step. Good luck.
p.s.: now I back-up files and pictures daily !!
