Question:
How do I stop my computer from continously freezing?
2009-09-04 15:16:09 UTC
I have Compaq XP and it always freezes, every time I use it, which is all the time. I have googled to get this answer many times and have been told to use a registry scanner program, which I have purchased and use all the time - makes not a bit of difference. We also run the full Norton 2010 virus protection program.

Sometimes a second tab on IE freezes, but them if I hit a third one it will come up and also Control Alt Delete doesn't work, and doesn't come up until the others have gone from me hitting esc!

HELP!!! Many Thanks

The most likely cause is a bloated registry which has become the home for all kinds of useless bits and pieces of data. Whenever any change is made to the system settings or a program is installed or uninstalled, a new entry is generated in the registry. The operating system while running your computer has to pick its way through all this excess material. There is a multitude of useless bits and pieces to be removed.Parts of uninstalled programs, parts of incompletely installed programs, dead drivers and many other things. clean your registry and remove all the useless data fragments and no longer needed information to fix the freeze error! I should like to commend Registry Easy http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!

Try fixing the Windows registry. The registry is frequently a major cause of computer freezing problems. When the registry is corrupted the computer cannot properly process information. When a computer cannot “compute”, it freezes up. Scan your system and check for any errors. Get a free scan at:

1) Remove Norton (and anything else by Norton or Symantec). If you need a good anti-virus program, use AVG, Avira or Avast. there are free versions of all of them.

2) Until you figure out WHY it freezes, you can't fix it. If you can't figure it out yourself, you'll have to pay a repair shop to fix it. You can't "fix" what you can't find.

backup ur files to an external drive. pop in your windows recovery CDS and reinstall windows. WIndows tend to degrade and starts freezing when its been installed for more than a year. registry cleaners such as comodo registry cleaner (free) on www.download.com tend to help a bit. but my advice. Backup ,.. pop in the recovery CD and reinstall your windows. will be just like you got it when it was brand new. I hope i helped. IF you hate windows soo much then try linux.

It could even be a hardware problem. When I had constant freezing it was a weak power supply. The problem was solved after a higher wattage power supply was installed.

Good luck.
