Hello, I'm trying to be cheery but I have had no end of problems connecting to my messenger (7.5) it just won't let me connect. I get that anoying troubleshooter thing come up and it doesn't help. I've ran evrything it suggested but nothing works...I'm waiting for Microsoft to get back to me as I've tried everything they have suggested through their online help people. This problem just happened all of a sudden after my laptop went in for a healthcheck - it came out no being able to connect to messenger or any secured sites. Say I'm trying to book flights or purchase something from the internet - I get to choose my items etc then when it comes to placing the order (on secured site) it bumps me off with this page cannot be displayed! I tried ordering through Amazon and it'll let me through the non secured site just not through the secured? help please I'm about to throw the laptop out of the window...I'm not tech minded lol

Go to TOOLS and then INTERNET OPTIONS. Go to ADVANCED and scroll all the way down.

make sure the two checkboxes are checked for SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0.

restart your browser.

If that doesnt work either, then its your firewall. You need to turn it off when you use an SSL site.

You're security settings may have been reset - Get into your internet settings (accessible via the "Tools" tab in Internet Explorer) and have a fiddle around with the settings and see if anything helps rectify this problem...

If you still have the problem, call the people who were working on your laptop and tell them the problem. Or as an alternative, call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) because they are trained to talk you to through and should be able to tell you EXACTLY what is wrong and how to fix it (I can only give general advice i'm afraid)

Well it seems that the IE is missing 128-bit encryption. To find this open IE -> Help -> About Internet Explorer on the window that pops up check the value for 'Cipher Strength:'. If it is less than 128-bit then you may not be able to open secure sites as most of the sites specially banking sites use atleast 128-bit encryption.

To resolve this problem reinstall/repair your IE. If this does not help then upgrade you IE to the latest (IE 6.0 SP1) from windwos update website (http://update.microsoft.com).

Hope this helps.

Using a router? if so open ports needed for MSN? How about a firewall blocking MSN?

You shouldn't ask Microsoft for help on this, call your ISP.

I would go to add/remove programs. Remove your messenger and then reinstall it after reboot.
