PIF file

Short for Program InFormation file, a type of file that holds information about how Windows should run a non-Windows application. For example, a PIF file can contain instructions for executing a DOS application in the Windows environment. These instructions can include the amount of memory to use, the path to the executable file, and what type of window to use. PIF files have a .pif extension.

These files are usually part of a programme and if you have all the files in place it should open with the set up file in the programme. You dont need to open this file itself.

PIF

Short for Program Information File, PIF is a file used in Microsoft Windows Operating systems that contains information used to run a DOS application in the Windows environment. PIF files were commonly used in Microsoft Windows 3.x. Today, however, with the absence of DOS applications, PIF files are seldom used. In order to open a .pif you need a compiler that runs in older DoS 6.22 or uses older windows extensions

"Contains information used by Windows to run a certain program, including code within the PIF file; do not open as an e-mail attachment, as it may contain a virus or other harmful scripts."

PIF files are Program Information Files used for MsDOS programs in Win 2000/XP systems. You can edit them if right-click on them and check their property sheets.
